Yesterday I got back from a weekend trip down south, total round trip of approx 850 miles.

My usual average consumption seems to be hovering around 30 mpg due to most of my journeys being short (I live 5 mins away from work). The efficiency when the engine is cold seems very poor.

For the long journey this weekend the overall trip average according to fuelly was 37.5 mpg but there were significant long sections where the economy was very good indeed as in the picture. My OBC is pretty accurate - approximately 5% optimistic compared to actual use. In this instance I wasn't trying particularly hard to be economical and the motorway was fairly busy hence the lowish average speed. It was actually reading 51.5 mpg just moments before I took the picture!

A good sign ndps, thanks for sharing. The engine as you would expect is much more efficient on a long run.

My last 50.5mpg tank was in reality 46.5 - which I was still delighted with.

There is a huge disparity in consumption between long easy runs and what I consider "mixed" driving.

My 306 mile run to Norfolk and back registered on OBC as 61.1mpg, that's getting closer to Mercedes figures. Even allowing for the built in optimism that's still mid 50's.
