I thought id start a thread somewhere on this as there very little info around the forums on upgrading and modding the 202 bootlid to a facelift one. The reason for doing it was that I have rust on my bootlid (lock area) and at some point I will need to repair, which will mean respray.

story so far...

- got hold of a facelift bootlid from KillerHERTZ (thanks), but it was completely stripped and things like handles and lights and locks are totally different! also it was blue and needed abit of work on spoiler holes and rust, so would cost me a bit to get it up to scratch.

- So i bought a facelift silver one from ebay complete with everything. its got a few surface scratches and a tiny rust bubble starting on the boot lock.

now these are the mods im considering

flush the rear lock and
1. add a switch to trigger the lock under the rear handle for a cleaner look
2. add the OEM boot release switch inside the car
3. 1 & 2
4. remove the star and add the aftermarket AMG logo
5. add a reverse camara, any ideas on where though?

any advise on the lock side? does the facelift lock have electronic release (hence the switch) i know it also has a vacuum pipe probably for the central locking side.

any ideas, opinions appreciated! :D

The guy from Oxford Car Audi that had also had a silver C36 had a reverse camera in the boot lock space. Neat as at even second glance it did not stand out.

If you struggle to get the boot release parts remember that the W202 had cockpit boot release on the pre-facelift W202 in the USA (might even be legal requirement) so there should be parts knocking around for this.

cheers guys for the responces so far!

1. Any opinions?
2. as ive got the facelift boot with the lock, i could probably replace the switch pack with boot release and wire it up to the new lock?!?
3.
4. PNSJI had the logo on the back of his black C36 and it looked pretty classy, check out his gallary pics and let me know what you think!
5.ive seen that one, thanks guys, i was thinking of getting one more descrete, dont mind drilling the hole as the whole bootlid will be primared and painted again anyway!

Facelift R179 SLKs lost the rear key hole on the bootlid, what do they use instead to access the boot without the remote key/dash switch?

Perhaps you could adopt a simular method. Have you asked SteveNL re: how he got his bootlock working?

Isn't the car in the pic, facelift? I may be mistaken but the switches would be different from say my car which has the older, squarer switches.

Only very early W202s had the square style switches (up to early 1995) Alps car has virtually all the facelift wiring aswell as the curved switches being a 1997 model.

The car in the pic is a C36 aswell.

Is it not possible to have the electronic boot opener from the inside facelift W202 style, the one that you pull up (left of mirror adjustment) If it is possible thats how I would do it, everthing else OEM. On the facelift bootlid putting the C36 & AMG badge & keeping the boot lock also !
If im not wrong isnt the boot lock hole on the facelift bootlids smaller ?

P.S. None of PNSJI's gallery pictures work ?

yeah i noticed pnsji`s pics no longer work, although there are still a few on club202 that do, but none of the boot!

one reason for blanking hte boot lock off is the rust! water tends to get trapped behind there. I was going to keep all the badges, apart from the star and replace it with the AMG emblem.

i will be using the facelift boot release switch, anyone got the wiring loom part number for the boot release?

Yea true say but not always are chances for it to rust, I have seen alot of pre-facelift and facelift W202s without rust in that location, so I guess water going in is by chance maybe seal is bad around the lock on models it has rusted there ?

Are there any pictures of your C36 AMG at the moment ?

hi Gurpz, proabbly 50-50 regarding the rust on the bootlock area, mine only appeared maybe 6 mnths back, but spreads quick, blanking it off will give it the smoother look like the newer cars.

im gave the car a good clean yesterday, and will spend most of the evening detailing it ready for TRAX on sunday, so will take some updated pics then!

The button is one-piece with the rest of the electric window buttons and mirror adjustment so you need to replace the whole panel. The whole panel brand new is £217.69!

82 electrical system diagram

I recommend using the pre-facelift button ;)

there are 3 sets of those for sale by dronsfield, ive bid on a set already! ;)

im gonna get all the bits needed, then i`ll pay a visit to Suki at PCS (prestige car specialists), he said not a problem doing it (he should know he used to be head electrician geezer at hampsted MB for 15 odd years!

cheers for the links guys.

shude: i was looking at that very page when you posted, cant see the wiring part number tho! may have to have a look at WIS.

There is no individual wiring from the switch, it shares the cable with the mirror adjustment and electric window control, something like 4 or 6 wires.

After that I've no idea but there must be some kind of solenoid at the other end.
