2025 road tax

There is no assumption by historic owners. They know their cars inside out.

Are you for a roadworthness test & tax for cyclists too i wonder?
What a ridiculous statement. By no means do all owners have mechanical skills to adequately maintain them.

What could you possibly have against an annual vehicle inspection?

As for cyclists, they should have to be insured.

The majority do. It is a hobby and it would be unusual to have a hobby you have no interest in.

I agree cyclists today are best advised to take out insurance. Helps to ensure a satisfactory result when the inevitable claim against a dozy / aggressive motorist occurs.

Because there are none otherwise self proclaimed "fastidious and mechanically competent" owners of vehicles of any age could claim that their vehicles should be exempt.
Obviously this doesn't apply to Mr B Dazzler as the owner, custodian, chief mechanic and general factotum of his vast and historic fleet 😁😁😁

Interestingly even on such an apparently tidy and very low mileage example, the MOT test history does show it has failed on items as basic as tyres being lower than 1.6mm tread depth and faulty lights.

A few advisories and an older failure for brakes too…
For sure, my point was only that its an example of a car that hasn't had extensive renovation, so won't have had "photographic evidence."

T'would be very strange for a vehicle that old to have never failed an MoT.

Always wondered who keeps voting Sad Khan back into office. Now i know. £2 per mile in central Londinium was his idea so i hear. Happy with that?
You can keep wondering!

No surprise to see you try and politicise another thread though…

Out of interest, I’d be keen to understand how policy in London would affect you -
I’ve not seen you post about your experiences there before :)

I think a £2/mile charge to drive in central London in you (non VED or MOT exempt?) 190D would make little difference on top of your £12.50 ULEZ charge and £15 CC fee anyway - better off taking the tube really.

Understood. It was more of a surprise as for such a low mileage and immaculate looking example of a prestigious brand car, to see that tyre depth upon presenting for a test was below 1.6mm really highlights why an annual test is no bad thing.

Especially when things like lights, brakes and windscreen washers are also showing in the list of failures.

I mean this isn’t the sort of rust bucket, 100k plus mile barn find run on a shoestring type example - and we’re not talking nitpick failures from a tester who’s having a bad day - where human judgment is the issue (a light either works or it doesn’t, right?)

That's called patina 😁👍
Is that the correct technical term for "knackered" ?

Pay for mile is your thing not mine and by its nature political.

And yes you are correct i would not contemplate driving into the old smoke. Train and then cycling would be my chosen modes of transport. Not because i aspire to be "green" but just because i enjoy using those modes of transport. Driving is a drag nowadays i find, not helped by the modern day **** (Richard) Turpins who see the motorist as a limitless source of free money.
