A quick question regarding winter tyres

I have a spare set of staggered 17" alloys and want to fit 225/45/17 winter tyres. I believe I can fit these onto the rear 8.5J rims but is anyone able to clarify this?

Thanks

Yes you can fit 225/45 17 tyres on 8.5j rims without problems. I've run with that set up on winter tyres for 9 months and probably 5,000 miles.

The tyre will appear a little more stretched than the standard fit 245/40 17 tyres. I've just switched to 7.5j rears on my winter set-up for this reason.

Thanks for reply. Not too worried about appearances, only safety! Have ordered 225's all round

Ive done exactly the same for the last 2 years with no probs. 225's are cheaper in winter tyres as 245's are not as common.
