My uncle wants to sell his Mercedes 230e W123. This has to be one of the best condition W123s around IMO. He is the only owner since new, it has been well looked after, garaged at night, any works it has needed doing has always been done. Runs fine and bodywork is in great condition.

Some info below:

Mercedes 203e - 'B' reg
Date of First Registration: 23/05/1985
Year of Manufacture: 1985
Cylinder Capacity (cc): 2299CC
One owner since new
172,500 miles
MOT: 20 Sept 2011
Road Tax: 30 Apr 2011

How much would you guys say this car is worth? Where is the best place to sell it? If anyone on the forum is interested in it please PM me. I have full resolution pictures I can email.

Can someone please get me a datacard from the VIN, Russian site doesnt recognise it. I will PM you it.

Thanks.

stunning car, and lovely colour contrasting of the beige...

IMO, mileage is high, but 1 owner is a BIG bonus.. i would put the price near £4.5-£5k at the very least..

it will appeal to the right person - not the mass market!

id sell it via the car and classic sites or put it in the merc enthusiast mag and they will put your phone number there aswell.. but might take a year for an editorial slot

Dont know what its worth, but i know thats a very VERY nice W123. A credit to your uncle.

Let's not get carried away here boss! £4-5k is pristine original, low-mileage territory.

This car on ebay has 100k miles less under it's belt and hasn't sold at shy of £4k. The colour combination might not be as attractive, but as you say, it will appeal to the right person. I think the period avocado green suits the w123 well.

Npuk, not dissing your uncle's car, it's obviously been well looked after, but a more realistic price would be under £3000 imo. Look at the competition out there on ebay, and advertise it well. Leave flim-flam ("drives like a dream" etc) out of the equation, get some nice photos in a nice location and put it on car and classic (free), Ebay with a sensible reserve and/or autotrader. People looking to buy these cars will know their intrinsic value, but that doesn't necessarily gets reflected in their financial value.

Oh, and deal with the stains on the front seats, remove those smelly trees, and get rid of the pontiff where the 3 pointed star should hold pride of place on the steering wheel!

The green one is Martin's (Vlad on here). i think worth £4k but it's a bad time of year.
NPUK - I agree about £2800-3000 for your uncle' car. Not really high mileage bearing in mind its a 25 year old car. I also agree about the stains/badge/trees.

Although my "hack" budget is under £1500 i would buy his car, its lovely. Mushroom interior no good to me though :(

It's a beautiful car; knowing it's Vlad's, it's sure to be as described and well looked-after. I think it's worth it. Howard on here bought, and subsequently sold one last year for around £4.5 iirc.

That is a very nice car in lovely condition . It certainly has to be worth £2-£3K any day of the week - but if you find the right buyer you might get lucky and realise more .

I'd think the best place to market it might be through the official MBOC Gazette , since there is a big following for the W123 within the club . The MBOC has a regular W123 day and , if your uncle is not desperate to sell right away , you could do worse than hold off until next year and take the car along to the next gathering as there is a 'cars for sale' area where you will find buyers looking for that particular model . Oh , and contact Mark Cosovich - a leading W123 specialist restorer as he may know people looking for a good W123 .

The car does have a lot going for it : one owner / excellent condition / penultimate year of production / quite attractive colour scheme and arguably the best model ( the 230 not that much less powerful than the 280 and gives little away in refinement but is noticeably more economical ) .

It does need the couple of little adornments removed before going up for sale - but I presume these pictures were not taken for that purpose .

The green one is indeed being sold by me....genuinely its a mint car with great service history and virtually every old MOT. I've been enjoying it over the summer and I keep having to remind myself its a 27 year old car. Lovely cars to own.

Hello mate,
I bought Howards dark blue W123, as most people will know on here it was a stunning example, certainly the best I have come across. It had under 70k on the clock with a huge history file which included a stamped up history book, the old mots and even the original bill of sale and shipping and import docs from Jersey.
It had the Zebrano steering wheel and a few other class touches. I hope Howard doesnt mind me saying but Im sure I paid about 2.4k for it. Unfortunately I had to get something more economical due to my increased mileage per week and I sold it on to a nice couple from Ireland for the same price.
I hope this info helps you to get an idea of what your uncles car is worth, it looks a very nice example. Why dont you buy it and keep it for a few years, they are only going to go up in price.

Thanks for all the replies, have passed the info on. Will get some better pictures this weekend.

Seems to be nicely optioned up- alloys/metallic /elec windows/stereo/front armrest/auto/rear headrests - must have taken a big hit over list price when new

Had some piss taking opportunistic offers I see.

Absolutely stunning vehicle. I hope mine will look that good when she is that old. I hope the sale goes well for you.

Regards

The mileage isn't that high, 25 yr old car with 170k is about 6.8k miles a year... and it is in pristine condition and has 1 owner. I would rather buy that then one with half the mileage, 3-4x the owners and looks tatty.
