3 Cars Keyed

While I might not amputate hands or other body parts , if I was suitably satisfied as to their guilt , I might be reasonably comfortable with the destruction of the perp's prized possession , whatever that might be .

Three cans of lukewarm supermarket lager, eight Bensons, half a packet of Rizlas and some weed ?

Indeed !

However , in the OP's case , where it appears to be a neighbour bitching about him having 'too many cars' we can presume the gripe is about parking spaces and therefore this neighbour also has a car . If , and it is a big if , it could be proven that he was the guilty party , apart from making him pay for the damage , it would be fitting for the OP to be allowed , if it was his wish , to key every panel on the perp's car and see how it made him feel .

In the meantime , the only answer might be setting up cctv overlooking the parked cars or constantly recording dashcams inside them , in case further escalation occurs .

A little drastic as a punishment for minor vandalism, surely?

Sounds a bit soft to me. I'd cut their feet off as well :thumb:

But seriously the police don't have time, hard to catch them and even if they do they'll get a slap on the wrist and that's about it. Crime might not really pay but it's not hard to get away with it in most cases because even if your caught nothing much happens.

One of my sons was shot at with a BB gun from a car once in an American style drive by along with some other people (Yes in the UK), he was 10 at the time. Thankfully they did catch him, was just shy of an adult. Another slap on the wrist and wrote us a letter to say he was sorry.

I get we don't have prison space and it's expensive. Something more serious needs to be done. I'd certainly make sure they cannot breed.

Yes , prison space is expensive .

However , locking such perps up in the stocks for a day , or longer , so that the local populace could throw rotten food , or other unpleasant substances , at them would cost next to nothing and might act as something of a deterrent

Public floggings might be another inexpensive , yet surprisingly effective , option .

Sounds good to me but we'll never get anything like this in the politically correct nanny state we live in these days. :(

extremely difficult to find the perpetrators of crimes like this esp without cctv and in some cases even with cctv...how many people walk past parked up cars all day.

why does the neighbour have a problem? do you use too many parking spaces or are you fortunate enough to have a driveway?

on my road most houses have more than one car but we are fortunate enough that everyone is friendly and mindful, for example if there was no space outside mine in the evening mine i would park around the corner rather than to take up my neigbours space knowing he will most likely be home in next half hour

we do have an issue of people parking their cars in the morning to use the trains...and someone who has just parked their trasit and seem to forgotten abt it! not going to key it though!

I have a driveway, but have been told that having 7-10 cars at any one time on my driveway "looks bad" and "lowers the standard of the area" (kid you not). Admittedly, I don't have a ferrari, porsche or other supercar on my drive like my neighbors, but a fleet of bangers that I use for rallies and 3 "normal" cars... but still.

Police came around on Sunday, looked around for CCTV (there wasn't any), and basically showed a presence, which is all I wanted. The chap was very apologetic saying that it was unlikely they would catch whoever did it.

Fingers crossed it doesn't happen again...

Damaging other's property cannot be excused.

However, having 7 to 10 old smokers littered around your drive/garden/parking space/road would be seen an eyesore or inconvenience to many.

That's not a driveway / garden , that's a scrapyard.

While it might be on your property , I can understand how neighbours would think you were lowering the tone.

Damage is not on though.

To be a scrapyard, it would need scrap cars - they're all taxed, MOT'ed and insured... not one of those cars is "scrap" (in my books). Each has a very specific purpose.

Take the old S320, which is a brilliant car and quite fun to use on the White Hat Rally. Through that rally, we raised almost £40k for Barnardos. That's not really scrap, now is it?

Charities great.

What other ones are on the driveway , excluding the S class of course.

Or how about a current photo , as they stand right now ?

I bet that my old S class is scrap by now.

On a serious note, just having used the car for a charitable rally does not make it less unsightly to your neighbours.

So a neighbours view into someone elses property and their subsequent opinion of what looks 'wrong' excuses vandalism?

Have you bothered to read the whole thread , or is it asking too much ?

I have actually, Howard.

I didn't suggest you were condoning vandalism, merely seeking to excuse it by suggesting 8-10 cars constitutes a scrap yard.
Asking the OP for a picture? Presumably so 'we' can make judgement on the 'look' of his collection?

What would the purpose of that judgement be Howard? To excuse or justify the vandalism perhaps..

Ooo, big man using my name.

Grow up. You sound like a second rate teacher.

No it doesn't and you know that is not what I meant, why are you trying to twist this around?

Oh FFS, here we go again........

Back on topic, hopefully, Michele, sorry to hear someone has damaged your cars pal.
