Folks

My rear wash wipe is leaking inside the tailgate. This is happening somewhere near the top of the tailgate. I cannot get the O/S trim off the tailgate to remove the tubing. Silly problem but it does not want to come off and I dont want to break the trim. Is there a knack to this. I have removed the small screw near the top.

Just been having a hunt through Silversaloons's threads, sorry cant find owt. He has perhaps more practical layman's experience than most with 124 tailgate trim.

Perhaps PM him for the info.

It's leaking where the pipe passes through the boot next to the hinge. If you drop the roof trim inside the car you'll find the pipe as it enters the boot. You can feed a new pipe in from there into the tailgate

The way I do it is to use the existing, broken wire / pipe to feed a pull wire through the boot. Then use the pull wire to pull through the new cable / pipe

It's not an easy job and you're likely to exhaust your usual repertoire of cuss words while doing it

Been there , done that - also with a 300TE .

yes as nick says you wont have any worthwhite access by removing the plastic inner trim. remove the rea-most roof panel and also the little blanking plate in the top centre of the boot lid. then pull the new pipe through.

the pipe will be on the o/s. if you can see the damage it may be easier to repair the pipe in situ rather than replace as its hard to get the pipe through the rubber grommet/pipe that goes from tailgate to roof due to its shape.

Thanks to Nick and John above. On W124 tailgate I have found a break [or cut] in top part of the seal - and now I know how to look further.
