Hi All :)

I own a c 320cdi (2006) with 50k miles on the clock.

A few times now i have experienced loss of power, after the second time i took it back to MB who claimed it was due to a dirty airfilter. So they cleaned it (and tried to charge me..) and then said it was ok. After that it has happened another couple of times, so that was obviously not the problem.

Before i take it back to MB i just want to know if there is a known common problem or anything like that?

Thanks,
Fred

If/when it does go back, I would tell them to plug it in and actually read the error codes (there are almost bound to be some logged for this event) and stop bloody guessing!

They have all this diagnostic technology and then don't use it???!!!

:doh::wallbash::dk:

I think they did read error codes last time as they reset something in the gearbox appearantly... (unrelated)

the thing is the car is under warranty (mb approved used), so i just wanted to make sure that if there are any common faults on these that i know it.

i dont want them 'fobbing' me off just for me to realize something big is wrong after the warranty runs out.

is it a gear box issue or engine power loss issue ? if gear box read my post re my bliming gear box issues that we are all resolving now , interesting stuff

Inlet port shut off?

I agree we did loads of these when I worked at the stealers, the main air intake pipe leaks oil straight onto the electricail conector of the inlet port shut off motor causing false readings and shorts in the sensor and wiring

did it today again coming on to motorway. scary and dangerous.

thing is if i turn ignition off and on again, it resets itself and works fine..

any ideas?

taking it to mb tomorrow.

cheers

FredT: I have a near-identical problem on a C270CDI (2002) - like you, problem clears if I shut down and restart (like Windoze ). What did MB say - I'm taking mine in tomorrow?

When you say lack of power does it go into limp mode and have lack of throttle respose.
As a few people have said it could be the inlet port shut off motor but this usually dumps the eml on as well.

One common thing on the OM642 engine is the exhaust manifolds break up and cause damage to the turbo thus resulting in a replacement turbo and manifolds.

If they put it on a star machine they would get some fault codes and then they should be able to trouble shoot from there.

If they say there is no fault codes stored ask to see a copy of the print out.

Or if there is faults and they say they are only stored so not to worry see if you can get a copy of the fault codes and post them up and i will have a look at what they are for you.

I hope this helps

I think I'd be asking just how they managed to clean an airfilter that's supposed to be replaced rather than cleaned! When I bought my car, it smoked a lot - found an airfilter that looked like it had never been changed during the 3 years since the car was new!
