Just been listening to the Chief Constable of Gloucestershire saying how at least 350,000 people are without fresh water and will remain so for a minimum of seven days and could probably be for 14 days or more. I cannot begin to imagine that number of people and I do hope this person is talking 'Worse case scenario' :o :o

My thoughts are with these unfortunate folks.

Regards
John

Just been watching some chap from Severn/Trent saying it will be a week minimum ....

4 days for the water to peak , 3 days to build a defence and pump it out , then get it back online ....

Time to start selling bottles of mineral water on ebay...

I hear that Marks and Spencers in Cirencester are selling 5ltr water for £15.....shame on them

If that's true , the amount of negative publicity that is gonna generate for them is unreal ...

A classic case of looking at the 'short term' ....

Yeah we can get a load of money in by ripping people off, two weeks later they wonder why no one wants to shop there ....

Don't M&S have a fixed price for everything across all the stores ? if the manager has done that off his own back , he can expect his P45 next week ....

It would be nice to think that the big supermarket groups could divert their supplies of bottled water and send them to the flooded areas...

they don.t stock enough .....we have one trailer every month thats just for every day no waters.. one trailer will carry 24 pallets each pallet has 108 packs of water each pack has 6 bottles each bottle hols 1.5 lits ..and a surper market will have about 1 or 2 pallets stock

It is sad that one man's tragedy is another man's profit. No matter what the catastrophe there is always someone out to make a profit?

John

so whats water worth .... more than gold thats for sure

In every event there's always someone who wins.

I would imagine that the people who sell carpets, plasterers, builders etc in the west will be extra busy in a few weeks time...

True enough ...

Dads just rented a RIB and crew to Channel 5 to go and film in Gloucestershire tomorrow ..... and is arranging for one for Sky News too ... a nice little earner ;)

Hope nobody decides to declare war on us, what with the Iraq/Afganistan thing and the "biggest ever peacetime rescue" we are in no shape to take any more on:rolleyes:

Might be a comment worth removing, that one...;)

What ? In case the VAT man is watching ?

I think your trying to highlight a very important point that is just too difficult to comprehend?

The population of Gloucester is approximately 110,000 people. One city with just one third of the numbers we are discussing.

HOW ON EARTH WILL THEY OBTAIN SUPPLIES TO COPE WITH THESE NUMBERS?

HOW WILL THEY DISTRIBUTE THIS WATER TO THESE NUMBERS?

Even if they put it into bowsers, where will they get the bowser from to deal with all these folks? Hospitals, old folks homes? Once you start thinking of the logistics, it is mind boggling and I gaurantee every firm will add a premium to their fees.

Just wait until we all go to renew our car insurance, building insurance, contents insurance. If you think these premiums will not increase because we were not effected then I would very respectfully disagree. I certainly would not single out Marks & Spencer. Even folks that hire out boats will no doubt be making a profit from this disaster? Will we be seeing bottled water being flown in by the Red Cross, Red Crescent etc?

John

People that hire out boats have to buy them in the first place , and have to pay the crews ..... ;)
