5,000 revs

on my w124 230 3rd n 4th will not go past 5,000 revs any more any ideas guys as this has now coursed the humiliation of being out paste by a 95 civic in bright purple with bright green wheels

gear box oil changed about 8mnths ago didnt no there was gearbox filters????

Change the engine oil and gearbox ATF, engine air filter, clean the butterly cap in the throttle body, change the air filter and gearbox filter too. That should see u to 6400 rpm

The manual does not have a gear box filter. The OP's car is manual.

Could be a problem with ignition advance or alternatively low fuel pressure. Have you changed the fuel filter? Other possibility is a partially blocked exhaust/cat.
