My friend 'Anne' was allegedly caught doing 50 in a 40 on a dual carriageway.

Should she expect points or the offer of a not-at-all-revenue-generating speed awareness course?

I'd throw the book at her. No doubt rumbling along in some 4WD, far too busy yakking, talking on the phone, looking in the vanity mirror, mainlining chocolate, listening to rubbish music and generally being the sort of driver we want off the roads.

Mrs IA2 was scammered at 46 in a 40. Points no course option

The first issue i can see is that "you" have friends.......

What was I telling you only the other day?

That someone was driving the '32 in temper because her husband had sold her RRS?

Come to think of it, the law of unintended consequences comes in to play here...

She was allegedly caught in a supercharged V6.

Very female behaviour, not capable of driving the car at a lawful speed or make use of the immense potential of a supercharged V6.

There are two bits of irony to this story...

One: only this morning 'Anne' was praising how sprightly the car was, quote "if you see a gap in the traffic, you turn towards it and in the blink of an eye, you're there"

Two: she makes it known that I'm 'impatient with other road users abilities' and a 'fast driver' when in fact my license is clean...

On poor guess I'd say course. Could be wrong though.

She should be offered a course, provided she hasn't done one in the last 3 years. The normal limit for a course is 10% + 9mph, i.e. 53 mph in a 40 zone. Above that you'll get a FPN or (at 66mph) a summons.

Latest guidelines are here:

http://www.acpo.police.uk/documents/uniformed/2013/201305-uoba-speed-enf-safer-roads.pdf

(scroll down to page 8 for the various thresholds)

That's the good news. The bad news is that some insurance companies now require you to report attending a speed awareness course ...

Smile at her, sit her down, give her a small glass of sweet sherry, and then show her this educational video.

I'm sure she will understand.

"Martin" is ***'s friend who was caught doing 138mph in Scotland...in the very same car as ***!!

I think they've moved the goalposts a bit lately. On my first course it appeared to be 10% + 2mph but my last one I was done at 39mph in a 30 zone and was very surprised (and happy) to be offered a course.Mind-numbingly boring but if she sets up her mind right she should be able to work out the menu for the SPX household for the next fortnight at least.
