Hello.

My Dad has a CL55 AMG Kompressor which has a slight vibration between 2000 rpm to 3000 rpm which vibrates the whole cabin of the car.

It has had new engine mounts, spark plugs, HT leads and a recent service, which hasn't really helped. I have heard that it could be the harmonic balancer pulley.

Is there any way of telling if the harmonic balancer is knackered?

...and any other suggestions what the vibration could be would be a great help.

Thanks

Hi

Have you check the Gearbox Mount?

acid

According to the MB specialist we went to the gearbox mounts were okay. But I wouldn't mind having a look myself, is there anyway of tell if they are knackered too?

Cheers

....Just thought I would mention. The car has done 57K and is a 2004 model if that helps. Cheers

Didnt someone have a pulley making some vibration on one of these recently?

Engine mount?

Best thing to do us get it on a star and look at the smooth running, if all over the place you could have a leak on the inlet, vac leak or dirty injectors, but you can chase your tail without proper diagnostics

Thanks for the replies guys.

I think the best bet for now is to change the gearbox mount, as it is a relatively easy job, and from what I have read it is a very common issue.

I'll be sure to keep you up to date.

Cheers

Yes, when Olly changed my engine mounts he also changed the gearbox mount + the two rear trunion bushes.

The car did drive so much better.

Your father has quite a rare 55 as from 2004 until the end of 2006 when they stopped production only four where produced.

There where only 178 55 Kompressors licenced since 2003 when AMG added the Kompressos.

Now there are 162 licenced and 7 on SORN. According to How Many Left, which you can take with a little bit of salt. Gives you some idea though.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? Mine has something very similar. Worse when the engine is cold.

I had the same issue on my W220 55KL, gearbox mount was shafted and that sorted it right out. Did you ever get to the bottom of this issue?

Had my gearbox mount replaced last month. Literally takes a minute to replace. Cost is around £30 - 35 for the part IIRC.

I've done the rear gear box mountains it's better by not right.

The cars only done 40k and there's no sign of the engine moving on its mounts. The vibration is only there when accelerating or its under load. I can get it stationary so it's not drive line.

I'm wondering if it could be the bottom pulley.

Have you checked the doughnuts?

Yes got this sorted a while ago, it was the gearbox mount. Cheap fix and wasn't hard or expensive to replace. It also had new engine mounts a year or two back which helped.

EGR valve?
