6.3l ????

lol good point.
But on the C63 side panels it says 6.3 litres when its not.
I ve not looked at my E55 for so long I've not a clue what it says no the side of it.

Just 'V8 Kompressor' I think.

And of course to make it even simpler, the new '63' is a 4 litre :)

I recall reading something about EU legislation and rounding up when stating litre capacity rather than model number. Seems like it's a bit deliberately engineered at 6,208cc allowing them to say 6.3 litres. I'll try and look up the document but it's all a bit academic in percentage terms of overall capacity.

All the numbers and all, the best bit of the 6.3 is to know it's the only true AMG engine as all the rest and the new ones are Merc engines with add-ones!

Why are they still called "63"?

Just out of interest really, why has the naming convention for the AMG's stayed at 63 even though they are not 6.3 these days?

I have a C63 with it's 6.3 (or 6.2 depending on if you round up or down!) but the newer ones with a 5.5 TT engine should surely be called the E55 etc?

Does it just not make marketing sense to lower the number and show everybody it has a smaller engine than the car it replaced?

The numbers are more about marketing nowadays than engine size. The 350 diesels are 3 litre.

They made more badges than they needed for the real 6.3

This conversation seems to be coming up just about every week at the moment.

I couldn't give two hoots what numbers go after it as long as it still goes, stops and sounds like an AMG.
