6 months with an SLK

Great that your still enjoying it. :) I sympathise with not driving it enough. :o

Don't worry about mpg, 7000 miles in 1 year is nothing.

If you got 30mpg you would only have saved about £330 in fuel over the year....ish

I get 14-17mpg, not bothered, its just so much fun....

Recently had its first service, and will need a new pair of rear tyres soon.`

you must be using all that power .. with the rears needing replacement at around 8k miles :)

interesting points on mpg. on a steady run i can get 35mpg from the 350.round town it gets about 19 on my wifes 2 mile commute, averge over last 3.5k = 25.7mpg

I forgot to say but when I sold my 350, 4years old with 5900 miles on it the average mpg since new was 17 mpg.

Interesting read that - We are just into our SLK350 about 6 weeks I reckon - Obsidian black -

We love it - mpg round town is circa 22-23 and on the one run we have done it was 29 - it drives like a dream, sounds and looks superb.

Looks, spec, engine, power, power and power, smoothness of gearbox - the g/f cant see the speedo from her seat :) - heated seats and scarf

dislikes
Few rattles from interior - why did they replace the old rollup space reduce in boot with the hard plastic thing - pointless in my view - big and bulky when not in use and it rattles
The front bumper is very fragile - g/f caught it on a kerb going real slow and cracked it -
satnav not taking full UK postcode

yes fuel is an issue but its just gone down over 15 pence a litre since we bought it so already saving :) we do 8K a year - saving across the year would be limited - depreciation will be a big hitter but I knew that when I bought it and hope to keep for 4 years.

in 33K miles mine registers 26mpg average - how much better would a 200 be

Hope to use the Indie in Caversham Reading for my servicing

A great car all round and glad I didnt buy the Z4.

took the car to Aberdeen this week.average speed 60mph and got 36.8 mpg.Damn good from a 3.5lt engine. Was on cruise most of the way.no frantic acceleration, but shows it can be done.Took a photo of readout but have yet to download it

Another year passes:) Used the car less than I anticipated, so it went for the second service last weekend, just on 10k miles. Car said Service C, dealer said B:)

I'd been quoted £357,for the B, including a brake fluid change, which didn't seem unreasonable. Got to the garage, and the price had mysteriously gone up to £406 + £50 for the brake fluid change, which wasn't a good start. I suggested they might want to stick to their original quote, which they did.

The rear tyres needed changing. I'd done a bit of research, so I know the tyres (original spec) were around £138 each fitted or more, so I thought I'd see how much they would charge - if it was close to that, they could do the job if they had them in stock, and save me the effort of going to a tyre dealer.

They had them in stock, and to my surprise were cheaper! £136.

After 2 years the car is still like new. Everything works faultlessly, no squeaks or rattles. Fuel consumption has decreased slightly, now averaging about 24.5mpg.

Normally after a couple of years I get itchy feet, and start thinking about changing my cars, but not this time. Its just too good

We've had our SLK two years and have absolutely love it too. Only the 200, my pockets didn't stretch to anything more. Well, I say we've had it two years, in fact we just traded it in for the facelift - another 200. colin_b, we got the itchy feet!

We couldn't find a car we liked more and were happy with the deal we got, so did the swop. Slightly O/T to the original post, but the improved engine is noticeably livelier.

Overall though, can't really say there's anything about this we don't like, and I've never said anything like that about a car before.

I didn't really notice any problems with stone chips - had a couple in 20k miles, but no more than you might expect. I did need a new windscreen through a stone though.

No faults, but the locking wheel nuts rusted quite badly and were replaced.

Cheers,
MarkP

Colin B - good to hear you are still happy with yours - we now had ours a year and a change in job for the G/f has actually meant she has put circa 14K on the car not the targeted 8K -

Replaced rear tyres like for like (Pirelli's) think we paid 300 fitted but I'd have to check . the cable to the rear number plates is snagged in the loom as it bends so that needs fixing - beyond that no troubles at all.

Still showing an average of over 26mpg that covers all kinds of driving so I'd say is a true representation of its mpg capability.

Still love it , but may sell it before we stick too many miles on it.

Sevicing at Star Motors in Caversham is a must and found out they can fit Xenon lights too as it was one extra we didnt have.

My usage tends to be mostly on country roads, bumpy, bendy and narrow, and pretty poor A roads (A595), which tend to be fairly hard on cars, so I'm happy with the fuel consumption.

When I was having the car serviced I had a look at the new R171. Looks nice, but not really that different, which is probably good for my wallet:)

Well, happy birthday, SLK350:)

3 years old, just had MOT no.1.

Still running perfectly after 36 months and 15k miles. Hasn't missed a beat or misbehaved in any way shape or form.

Been serviced 3 times, no problems, happy with that. Apart from servicing, 2 rear tyres and screenwash!

Fuel consumption 24.9 average, pretty good, given my usage is many short journeys, and windy B/C roads.

I'm happy.

The good advice I got here when I bought it is still appreciated every time I drive it, so thanks.

Colin b and his good lady came down to the Lake District GTG.
That is truely an immaculate car. Sounds good too.

24.9 MPG and a smile a minute. Not much better than that. - Well may be tpwuk's car:devil: Q another post from him!!:D

Another year, and the SLK celebrates its 4th birthday. I'd kind of planned keeping it for a few years, but I normally get itch feet and change my cars after a couple of years.

I've no plans to change it, it is just too good!

It gets used less than I had planned, but that's my circumstances, rather than anything to do with the car.

First, the stats over 4 years...

19,000 miles, overall average 24.6 mpg.

Zero oil consumption beyond annual oil change.

2 rear tyres at c9,000 miles, 2 front at 18,000.

A couple of gallons of screen wash.

4 x MB services, first both around £175, last 2 on MB service plan, £30 a month.

No warranty work. No faults, rattles or things that I've had to fix/get fixed.

It does have a few stone chips, but most of them appeared in the first 6 months, the paint seems to have fully hardened.

Its still a nice place to drive in, and the performance continues to make me smile.

So 4 years on, still 10 out of 10:)

But I wouldn't but another - the latest incarnation just doesn't look or feel better than mine.

Nice to hear some positive stuff on here, for a change!

The positive stuff easily gets forgotten. Our SLK is now 6 and a half years old. Like Colins car nothing has gone wrong with it in that time. Just routine servicing and new tyres at 22,000. Still on original brake pads and discs. Its only a 200k but very high spec. No plans to change it.The 200k is perfectly adequate for our needs. It would be almost impossible to get anything similar for what it is now worth.

True, but I've relegated the niggles, and soothed them by thinking of the £25k I didn't spend:)

I took an alternative view and did it by allowing someone else to own the car before me ;). OK, mine was 4 years old when I bought it, but at 11K miles, barely run in. Just about to turn over 16K...

Cheers,

Gaz
