95 Ron or 99 shell v-power derv??

Yeah I put some esso premium derv in at the weekend and it maybe my imagination but the V6 lump does feel smoother!? Even a little quicker?!🤔🤪
For the extra cost involved, for me it’s a no brainier. If it costs me a few quid a week extra, so be it, but the 350 runs beautifully on it, as have a number of derv vehicles previously owned. Over the years, fronting a busy Indie and listening to a never ending stream of disgruntled owners carp about the cost of a DPF clean/Regen is a salutary lesson learned.
Each to their own I say, but for me as said ... no brainier. 😎

Your right. It is a no brainier really... just need to stop being a tight ****!!🤣🤣🤣

Or you could possibly put all of the emissions values from the past MOTs starting from when the car was 3 years old (if you have it) in an excel spreadsheet and see if there's a pattern or a trend.

Out of interest, I've just done that for my C350 petrol starting from its first MoT

All I can deduce from that is that measured emissions are basically unchanged, with CO and HC remaining way below the limits (≤ 0.2 and 200 respectively) and λ sitting nicely mid-range (0.97 - 1.03)

I mostly fill up with Tesco standard Unleaded but every now and then fill with Tesco Momentum99 as the mood takes me. other than that, I use standard unleaded at whatever the petrol station is when I need to fill up in the UK. When in Europe I always fill with whatever is the top rated full available at the time.

What sort of mileage have you done in those 8 years ?
Would you say that your engine is running very clean from those figures, unless there is more to it than basic CO, HC and Lambda.

Only 36,000 miles. I have no idea how clean the engine is running, but it feels even smoother than when it was new. Even the M276 timing chain rattle has disappeared 😀

Using MoT data for this sort of analysis is unlikely to reveal anything meaningful in my view. It’s a crude test under effectively zero load, aimed at picking up gross emitters.

So typically how much is V Power diesel ?
Not sure exactly, not bought any for a while (not been doing many miles/using fuel), but I guess it will be a 8-10p/litre hike on Fuelsave Diesel.

Usually 13p a litre more.

Hi , I fully understand that car owners have different fuel requirements.

I have both petrol and diesel powered cars. I personnely use super fuels , the reason is from my own experience.

Many years ago I had a company VW Passat 1.9 diesel 06 plate.

Company insisted that all cars had to be fueled using the cheapest available diesel , ( Company only kept cars for 3 years )

I cannot overstate how good VW were is trying to sort out the problem and they must have spent thousands on warranty claims.

The car had three fuel pumps replaced but was showing signs of failure again before I left the Company employment.

The long and the short of the problem VW concluded was the poor quality fuel being used in the car caused fuel pump failure.

You're lucky you didn't have the 2.0 tdi with it's #2 balancer shaft 77mm oil pump drive !

That was unlucky, using contaminated fuel 3 times.
Unless it was bad design of the fuel pump ?

Hi , poor fuel pump design from what I remember but dealer had many customer cars in storage waiting or replacement pumps.

Don't ask about gearbox issues and clutch failure.

I have started using V Power in my 2005 CLK270 and have noticed a slight increse in mpg, but a huge reduction in exhaust smoke.
When I put my foot down there is a large puff of smoke, but after that it is clear.
I will continue to use V Power instead of regular diesel + drugs.

My 2017 E220d when I bought it in January I always thought that it was a bit unresponsive giving light load on the throttle. As it was a new car to me I thought that’s the way it was. However, I’ve just gone through a couple of tank fulls of premium and it’s far more responsive and slightly better economy. So it’s done something and better for it.
