My New CLS63 AMG

The lack of Star in my engine bay was annoying me, so today I worked on my modification - only cost me £6 in total!

1st I cut the mesh to the size of the W202 star:

Threaded through some Paperclips to hold them together:

Went around the edges trimming them the mesh to size:

Drilled 2x small holes in the engine cover:

And there you go:

Not 100% perfect, but for the meanwhile until I think of a better method to join them all together im more than happy with it:

And for Comparison, OEM badge off an S model:

Who says modding is dead these days eh? :D :D :D

I have shot loads of video and will create a HOWTO Video and thread for this. :)

Are you going to change the wheels and if so to what ?

I never liked the wheels until I saw them in person, I love the Diamond cut finish, how long they stay like that after winter? who knows!

Try applying wheel sealant?

Come on try harder......[emoji1787][emoji12]. XFR 225mph with a 6% slippage!!!

My old mans XFr is running a similar engine setup and it's an absolute beast.

Jaguar XFR: 225mph

As the car is just under 7 years old and it only has 62k on the clock its still in great condition. there are a number of small tiny-ups which I have been doing just to bring it upto near perfection :)

The front numberplate plinth and wiper arm covers have started to grey ever so slightly. So with a can of Halfords Plastic Bumper Paint (Black) I have restored them back to new.

Also gave the back of the Differential cooler a quick spray to brighten it up:

Karl, I could tell from the photo, did you spray the wiper arms in situ?

I had them in the upright position, masked off with tape then used old towels instead of newspapers :)

One area which let the otherwise mint condition interior down was the drivers seat.

As you can see, the side bolster had begun to crack & was worn. I treated the leather with various different Meguiars products, including Leather conditioner to add moister back into it and halt the cracks in their tracks. I then applied the following Dye kit which I purchased on eBay a couple of years ago:

Once it had fully dried and I had removed the excess:

Not 100% perfect as the stitches are still slightly frayed compared to the rest of the seat, but virtually unnoticable and a great transformation IMO :)

Re your frayed threads use a lighter and singe them. Will clean them up and look a lot better.

That looks really spesh!
I know what you mean about the increased width. Jumping from the older CLS to a 2011 version it just felt less 'dense':dk:
That should be years of fun, but the question remains.....have you got it's RFL yet.....

The car's looking great. Unusual rims (not sure if I've ever seen a Merc on a set?) but they set it off nicely.

My 212 is 18 months older but on the same miles. It looked pretty box fresh when I got it in April 2017 but needs a bit of cosmetic TLC now. Not having had a drive/hose/power supply for nearly a year has meant that I haven't been able to keep on top of all the little jobs that collectively make a real difference.

It still looks fine from 20 feet but when I get up close I can see quite a few imperfections.

Now I'm back in the house now I will start chipping away again. Inspired by what you've been doing.

So, few questions if you don't mind... As I'm now concidering an E63 touring to replace the Volvo. (aware the E and Cls are different, but similar at the same time)

1. Running costs, MPG, insurance, servicing
2. Key options to look for
3. Key issue to look for
4. Warranty? Would a Private car and Warranty direct be a silly choice? Main dealer purchase only?
