Hi all,

First time MB owner and first post here :D

I am purchasing a 98 Mercedes ML 320 petrol. After doing a few searches am I correct in thinking it is a "W163"? Presumably the MB model or version number?

It's just over 100k and I understand the gear oil will need to be replaced if it hasn't already is this still correct?

Any thing I should be looking out for generally (Please don't say things like "don't get this year/model" etc. get a later one) this is the model I'm getting just want to know any common bad bits. As well as the model/version for any parts etc.

Many thanks
In advance

Congratulations on your new car.

Yes it's a W163. The W163 went all the way front 1998 to 2005.

Check for rust around the arches, cills, and tailgate in particular. Check the ball joints, look for broken suspension springs and weeping suspension dampers or "struts".

Enjoy your new car!

Hi My apologies I've only just noticed the reply.

Awesome, In theory then any part associated with a w163 should fit if needed?

There is some minor rust patches but all looks fixable maybe a few welds needed.

All the other parts mentioned look ok will get up on a ramp when I can for a good look over.

I am enjoying and it's driving lovely at the moment Thank you :)
