A class diesel - blackish exhaust emission

40mpg for a 170cdi mainly urban travel is ok in handbook, especially as car has done 102000 plus.

Hi, I thought all my troubles were over.
The black smoke stopped emitting for no obvious reason
Had the car serviced at one place,emission levels,turbo,lambda all fine.
Had it mot'd at another place,again eveything fine.
Smokefree for about a month (2000 miles) then for no reason started smoking again,no other symptoms.

I take it the air cleaner is free of muck, or not too old?
Did you use a different brand of fuel while smoke free?

Hi, about 2000 on air cleaner,and have used BP ultimate forabout 2 years.

If its putting out a small amount of smoke all the time then that might be indicating one of the injectors is giving out a bad pattern. Then under load this would only get worse.
Dieselman has already suggested getting the pattern checked - I'd probably be going down this route now

I take it you have no air leaks from intercooler plumbing etc, or leaves etc in the intercooler .

Apparently Mercedes dealer checked everything out and couldn't diagnose problem,hence I have Mercedes HQ investigating on my behalf.
Customer care,what the ---- is that?
