Do you know what the rule is regarding the definition of the 'car' which constitutes a car on parking area.
Reason why I ask, is I couldn't fit my total car (Polo at the time, which is a small car) fully in the 1 hour parking spot and my two rear wheels were on white zig zag, I'd say 2/5's of the length of car were on the zig zag. I remained in the car (engine off) while my wife ran into the shops to quickly buy something.
A Police van came by and the officer informed me that this attracts a 3 penalty points and £60 fine, and did I want to contest it. I said I didn't and he arranged the paperwork.
After this, I assumed that for a parking offence to take place it was for any two wheels of a car - but can't find anything to support that.
Too late to contest it now, but just for interest, as I'm nervous even having even say half a tyre and overhang on a double line in instances where I can find a parking space but can't quite fit in.
As for your comments, this is not something for Peterborough, but it is known that some Attendants will issue a PCN for any part of the vehicle overhanging onto a restriction, ie a bumper! Seems what you're saying the Police follow a similar ideal.
In Peterborough we tend to follow the 50/50 approach, but there is still a fair amount of individual discretion involved.
I will try and find some specific legislation about it. Most likely it's within Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which isn't online, so I'll read my work copy
