My friend's just rang up to say he's put £10 worth of petrol in his W-reg Mondeo 1.8 Td and when he's realised what he's done, he's put in another £30 of diesel.

Do we think he needs to brim the tank so the diesel mix is stronger, or will it be all right do we think with what he's done already?

Thanks in advance.

He should be fine. But brimming the tank would be no bad thing in the circumstances.

yep hes done the right thing keep topping up as often as poss (and hope the tank dont leak, lol)

Lol

It'll have killed him putting £40 in the car.

He's very tight, even for a Yorkshireman!

Hi might just about be ok depending on which engine he has... it will just burn out.

Never do this on a more modern car, even the slightest amount of petrol will strip the injection pumps, injectors etc.

I thought it'd be all right, it's the old 1.8 diesel engine; slow as a slug but reliable.

This came up in one of the car mags this week - cant remember which. The response was exactly that given above. Fill it up and top up regularly. Should be fine.

You'd better remind him that although water is free and made of combustible components and thus attractive - it isn't a good idea, even in a Mondeo:)

A friend did it on an A5 two years ago...filled with diesel...no problems since.

Be careful what you say about me.

I've, quite literally, not got a family of 30 solicitors at my disposal.

Bet they are not prosecution counsel though , more likely just council
