Hey Guys,

I feel I am stuck with this Garage. I gave my car to this garage to replace starter motor. I gave them the starter motor which I bought from Prestige Parts. Garage fitted starter motor but still could not get it started. They got it checked by Electrician who decalred starter motor as wrng one. Now I approched Prestige parts who supplied me with another starter motor & have guaranted that this is the correct part. I also check wih mercedees by providing my Vin number and they gave me exact part number which is on this starter motor. Now Garage has fitted the starter motor but the car is still not starting.

I feel I am now stuck and wasting money and feel this garage does not know what they are doing. They checked the starter motor in frontof me before fitting with jump leads and the starter motor worked.

any one had situtaion like this before

please advise

Adam

that is tricky, do you have the ability to carry out tests yourself with our help? otherwise you will need to find a mercedes specialist to diagnose.

If you can please kindly guide at least I will be solid grounds when I visit garage. I will take printout of all comments here and will take it to garage.

there is also a fuse i believe. fuse and relay in compartment under drivers feet. this is the place to test the starter from as well, the purple wire.

Patty?

Part number of starter motor which I have given to the garage now is 005 151 2101. I checked with Mercedees Parts division they gave me exact number when I provided then the VIN.

How to check with purple wire. Could you please eloborate. When I had the car with me I actually checked all the fuses in that compartment and none were blown.

the wires leading out of the compartment to the l/h/s will include one purple wire which goes to the starter solenoid. if this wire is powered up the starter should engage. as grober says there is also a relay involved, did you follow grobers very good link? a great site for the a class.

alexander patie, not patty thanks. when i registered i typed in "alexander patient", sadly i was too impatient to notice that was too long and registered the name in error. oh, the cruel irony of it. :D

Grobers link shows The relays service the following:-K7. Fuel Pump.K8 Engine Management. K9 ESP/VGS or Automatic Clutch. K10 Rear window defroster. It does not show which relay is for starter motor

scroll further down the page and you will see another relay box location described----- the imobiliser relay K3/ green (if present ) will be in there.

Guys...today received the car back.....all looks good & working fine....Paid £210 as labour...and was told electrician found fault with some switch...now i feel was it really my starter motor gone..I still have the old starter motor..can I check some how if its good or bad

Any competent auto electrician or a Bosch service centre will do a quick check for you but since the bulk of your repair cost already has been labour+ testing is it worth spending even more money.

Hi Alexander,
I've read your posts about w203 heater flap/stepper motor... I have no heat to footwell with clicking behind the radio (2002 c270cdi) so i hope its the 1-2 hour job to fix through the radio aperture.
Are you based at the Stowmarket Indie ? in which case can i bring it to you to look at please ? would be much obliged

kind regards
david
