Hiya All, new member with 09 CL500, just had car back from major service at MB dealership, no probs going into service, 30k on clock!

On return, car started to whine, the feeling was that it was tracking the engine revs and could be felt through the steering wheel and transmission.

Took car back and dealer said straight away,ABC pump gone!(good wack of dosh there mi thought!) "how come no prob before you did major service then"?
These things happen was the reply, anyone any thoughts?

Hi. To be brutally honest, that sounds about right. A brand new ABC pump can fail just after being fitted. It's unfortunately one of those problems that you can't pinpoint a mileage related failure on etc. I personally experienced a ABC pump failure after having a brand new unit fitted at a main dealership. The pump failed before I got off the forecourt. It really sucks that this is still a real problem today as its been a known issue for over a decade. Just poor engineering.

Hi there,

It's highly likely to be the pulsation damper/ dampener, I had the same problem iand it was sorted after replacing it. Get a second opinion, do not replace the (expensive!) pump straightaway.

From memory it was one hour labour plus the part, no more than 400 pounds.

Good luck.
