Hi

I need to buy a new ADSL router, ideally I would like one with a built in USB print server. I know that D-Link do one, but its not ADSL and by the time you add the modem works out quite expensive.

If I have no luck with a print server one then am looking at the Netgear DG834GT, anyone have any views on these? Plus any good deals out there?

Regards

Tan

Hi Andy

Thanks for the offer, but i would need an ethernet modem to connect to the D link router.

Its very much appreciated though.

I would also recommend the drayteks, I have used them many times.

Are the ranges good on the Drayteks?

There is a guy selling the non wireless version of the router on ebay for £100 BuyItNow, bargain compared to online stores, finishes in 2 hours. Shame its not the wireless version!

I have had the Netgear DG834G for about 18 months, and just this week moved to the DG834GT version. Both are rock solid devices, with the only complaint being that some versions of GT firmware require a regular reset. Upgrading to the latest firmware will solve that problem.

Are they good? I think they are excellent, and to add some weight UKOnline have mandated them for anyone on the 22mb ADSL2+ service as they are so reliable and easy to support.

The only features that they are missing are VoIP ports and the QoS features to match.

Linksys boxes are also worth a look. I have had quite a lot of their stuff too.

Sounds about right, and MIMO stuff is generally quite good.

Good luck with whatever you get! :)

I note the 'new' netgear is MIMO but still a '.g' device.

When are the 'powers to be' going to ratify the '.n' standard - I note Belkin has a pre N + MIMO offering in the market at the moment.

The date set for N ratification was meant to be 2007-8 but as with all of these companies who are guessing the final settings, it isnt much of a problem if you stick to one manufacturer.

Dlink have just brought out a 144mb wireless system which is making a mockery of the whole process!

I have had the Netgear DG834GT 5 months it is solid device, no complaints.
Updating is an easy a fair

I recommend any of the series from netgear
I bought mine from PC World (order online and collected) of all places the only place that could get near with price was ebuyer.com :bannana:

I use a lot of the 3Com Wireless routers. Decent range, easy updates, remote management (if you want it) firewall, and VPN.....

That's the router that I have at the moment at my Parents, though I dont find that the range is great, was better on my previous Netgear.

Have you turned off 802.11b and turned on the "long-range" setting ?

Thanks to the info in this post i made a few purchases over the weekend.

Bought two Netgear DG834GT which as Scott mentioned, was a complete doddle to set up, and the remote access is pretty good.

Also as a treat for home, i upgraded from my Belkin which seemed to have some issues to a DLink DSL-G624M which is giving much better range than my Belkin.

The Netgears i reserved online at PCWorld and collected in person, saving myself a little bit (thanks to misterb for that tip)

and the DLink i got from DSL, which as Tigger mentioned, give excellent advice and service.. with a good price too!

This forum rocks!, thanks to you guys :bannana:

Glad you have had some luck with the boxes! MBClub members are always happy to help...... :-)

My 834GT has behaved really well with the new service. No complaints at all.

Going to set up an 834GT on Friday night.

I have a PCI card for my stepsons PC and a PCMCIA card for my laptop.

Looks easy enough though, never set up a wireless LAN before. Just hope the range is good.....

Draytek's are great, had mine 3 yrs with no probs!!
