ADSL Wireless Router

Have you turned off 802.11b and turned on the "long-range" setting ?

Tried that still no improvement

That's the router that I have at the moment at my Parents, though I dont find that the range is great, was better on my previous Netgear.

I used to have the same problem with a linksys router i had. Returned it and got a Dlink.

Messing about with it , i found the best reception i got was when it was roof mounted. Living in a victorian house the celings are 14 feet high. Ive got the router in the loft with a hole in the celing big enough for an aerial to poke through. I painted the aerial in undercoat and then matched it to the celing colour , remembering to fill in the extra space round the aerial in decorators caulk. Works a treat, almost invisable ..

This may sound daft but do the routers work better sending the signal downwards rather than up?

The wireless kit at the office is in the loft... time to move the router me thinks.

I have been using the draytek adsl routers for a couple of years & no probs. but the wireless one did need sveral resets a week - so I disabaled the wireless bit & bought a dlink G series wireless acess point . the combo works fine

You could spend hours reading about aerial positioning, lobes, etc. Just keep moving it until it's right for you. A small change can mean a lot.

I have had the Netgear DG834G for about 18 months, and just this week moved to the DG834GT version. Both are rock solid devices, with the only complaint being that some versions of GT firmware require a regular reset. Upgrading to the latest firmware will solve that problem.

Are they good? I think they are excellent, and to add some weight UKOnline have mandated them for anyone on the 22mb ADSL2+ service as they are so reliable and easy to support.
My Linksys WAG54G gave up this morning (the switch inside died, which meant the physically connected computers lost network connectivity). As I need network and internet access to do any work, I had to go to PCWorld and buy another.

Normally, I'd do loads of research and wouldn't go near PCWorld, but without internet access, I had to wing it and hope I got a good one. Saw the new Linksys gear, but ended up with a ... Netgear DG834GT! With a free WG111 USB adapter, all for £65, which I don't think could be beaten.

Worked almost straight away (had to change the router address from the default of 192.168.0.1), nice and fast, wireless setup easy. Not checked out the wireless range yet, but fairly confident it will be an improvement on the Linksys. The Linksys has a three year warranty, so that'll be going back shortly.

Thought I'd check on here to see if it had been recommended, and what do you know! It's nice to know Scott that when 22meg comes here, I'll be all set ;)
