>Just a normal digi box.
That's what I thought you meant, though your combo of Digi Box, Analog tuner and 4 inputs still has me scratching my head. In any case, just as I was about to down tools and get on with my life, you've reminded me that my COMAND-APS has an unused AUX/Video input that's just begging to be used for something useful... a homebrew [single tuner] Digibox solution sounds a very tempting experiment - reception will probably be a iffy for a single-tuner car-based digibox with a weeny aerial. Any experience/suggestions on that front ? Not too keen on a full size Yagi on the roof
Digi signals are best received if you can without any pre amp. As far as I know there is no digi box, car or otherwise that is more sensitive in the front end.
When it comes to digi signals its all about where you live and the lie of the land. Do bare in mind that once the analogue is turned off, then the signal will be boosted by around 30% from to days levels.
Where I live, I have a 16ft mast on the house with a 60 element yagi, I cant even get analogue in the car, go to he top of the hill and its all there and digi.
My friend who has one in his new S class in Watford has no problems.
I do have a feeling that the 3 tuners in the analogue tuner are there for other operating systems like band 2 and 3. soft ware and country activated. After 55 years in this line I cant think of any other reason.
Its normal to boost analogue as I said, once I have done the aerial split, I will know more, that will be when it stops raining if ever. it is easy to add a booster if it would do any good. The thin cables in the car do have an effect on the signals, some times you have to use a booster over come that, I will know it all in a couple of weeks.
Re the type of digi box, you are better off with a box that can find new stations rather than a complete re tune, the reason being that once you have tuned to new stations outside of your area you can fill up all 69 of the channels from the transponders.
