afternoon one and all, just signed up as we are planning on buying a CLK within the next couple of weeks, so basically looking for any tips,advise etc on purchasing and beyond. We are looking for either a 230K or a 320 (my choice is the 320) and would welcome any input from other ,more knowledgeable members ,on their experience of these vehicles. Budget wise ,about 3 grand to spend so should get something reasonably tidy for that amount and it has to be an auto. Look forward to hearing from you. Cheers.

Check for rust. They suffer badly.

Go for the 320. Much more relaible engine and nippy too.

Yes I have noticed a few with rust on the front wings and around the boot area, but are they liable to major corrosion issues underneath also?

Check the front subframe and front spring perches if it has them, although usually associated withe the W210 E class, worth checking.

Welcome along. Perhaps if you were to tell us where you live, just the town will do it. Someone with experience may offer to come and have a look with you at your chosen steed. Or you may live near one of the forum specialists who will come and give you a professional opinion for a pound or three. That would be money well spent.

You should pick up a decent one if you are patient Have a good look around there are plenty on the market and some good ones.
I have a CLK 430 and fortunately no rust issues. A lot of car for a low budget go for the 320 over the 230 Or try the V8 and it will be very hard to change your mind!

Thanks for the welcome all who responded, I have been a member of our german and swedish car forums previously so I know that there is a wealth of knowledge to be tapped into on these sites! Think I am pretty much settled on buying a 320, unless I find a 230 which is too good to pass up, I even have my wifes approval so I'm 99% sorted. Got a couple of things to sort first though to release some funds but that will be done within the next fortnight. Already my wife is planning long european trips in it and we havent even bought it yet. BTW we are living in Swansea.
