Hi, I'm looking to buy a cheapish compressor. Mostly to use with a brad nailer and an orbital sander.

I've used plenty in my time as a carpenter. but now I'm buying my own, I don't actually know which one would be best, I was looking at a SIP AIRMATE 06292 from toolstation for £99.98
Or a stanley compressor from screwfix for £139.99

Are these both fine to use?

We have just bought a house so will be gutting the whole place out. But will only need it for light use.

As all my other tools are cordless.

Or if anyone else has any recommendations.

Thanks

See what Machine Mart and Costco have on offer too .

The real cheapos tend to run out of puff too quickly.
Take a look at the 3hp here :
Air Compressors

Buy an IM 350 Paslode gun.

If you are a chippy then you will know they are better than any compressor.

Yeah but I'm waiting for the dewalt brad nailer to come out. They just released the first fix one. As its battery so it will save on gas.

Thanks. Is there much difference to what I need it for between 8 bar and 10 bar?

About 2 bar !
Buy the most powerful your budget allows. You will grumble about one that cant keep up with you and wonder why you didnt spend an extra £100.

On reflection maybe a compressor isnt the way to go for you - sorry.
You wont want to lug around the house a 3hp compressor.
I would use a mains electric sander and a Paslode or De Walt brad nailer ( or even a hammer and save a bomb !)

If you are looking for simple/cheap for small jobs i saw they are doing portable 8bar ones in Aldi for £60 at the moment. Looked very handy for small little jobs but obviously it wouldn't do anything heavy duty

Thanks for the input guys. I will buy a compressor as its always handy to have. Ill see what the little stanley one from screwfix is like, I can always return it. If its not upto much.

I think orbital sanders req a minimum of a 14cfm compressor, or at least mine does. Smaller compressors dont supply enough volume to run the sander.

If you arent in a hurry dont forget that Machine Mart regularly have VAT weeks which will save you at least £20.
By the way many output claims are exaggerted. I have a 2hp Michelin compressor from Screwfix which cost £99 and promises 8cfm but delivers 3 or 4 ! Its fine tyre inlating or light spraying or as a blow gun but it wouldnt run a sander for example.

I was hoping b&q have some as I get 20% off but they dont look that good tbh.

1 will turn up at the right price hopefully
