Lap Tab normally have a good reputation but I saw some BMW M5 alloys they had done and they were terrible, never had any done there personally normally use MSS in Leeds but even they now are getting expensive. Think when I need my next one doing I will make the journey to someone on here you can trust. If you use the search function I'm sure you may find someone I think Stats007 is your man but not sure where he is located.

Had a look at the Lap Tab website and found it very interesting. Actually I thought it was a good site.

What is the sort of going rate for refurbing alloys these days? I've never needed to get any done before, but some of mine have badly flaking paint now, so could do with something doing to them.

For a standard finish, between £50 and £70 per wheel seems about average. You may pay more at some places and, obviously, more for non-standard finishes. I had mine done here. I've heard good and bad reports of them, but they did a fair job on my wheels and gave me a cash discount.

bourne end quoted me £68 per wheel with a 3-4 day turn around, but they send them away to someone else. They would have lent me some wheels if they had some. They did have spare for audi and bmw

"they send them away to someone else"

To BJV, linked above, perhaps, as they are only five miles away?

I have only good things to say about BJV, having given them three jobs. I know that some others disagree, but they're fine as far as I'm concerned and their prices are very competitive:

I used Lap tab nearly 2 years ago. 5 alloys for £235 I think. They were/are fine but the finish is not brilliant on 2 of the wheels because they only shot blast them (they did tell me before doing the job that the level of corrosion meant that would happen). They did them same day by the way (dropped car of at 07.30 and picked it up at 4.30.

If I had a nice set that needed doing I think I would get stats007 to do them - he puts a level of care into them that other places wont. It will take longer but you will get a superior result.

They did a set of wheels for me (Lap-Tab)

They lost 2 of the centre caps, the finish was well below what I expected and a track day 2 weeks later caused all the finish around the wheelbolts to melt & loosen, nearly causing me to lose a wheel off the car.

I wouldn't recommend them.

I have experience also of lap-tab Birmingham. To be fair I had a major run in with them, having dropped of car at 7.30am for a same day finish. On my return one wheel was freshly scuffed. One other not finished well at all. To their credit I was offered either a full refund or drop car off when I next in Brumns for a second go.
I took the refund and lived with the two imperfections.
I now use The Wheel Restorer in Wrexham. Great job and the owner Roger is a super guy too.

I used Lap-Tab too, decent work and very very quick.

I used to be in Birmingham fairly regularly for work so wasn't a major problem. Used a company in Reading once too for my brother-in-laws AMG's. They sent them off somewhere (think it was Pristine)...
