Am I Getting Old?

Everyone has been moaning that the Jap cars have been getting far too subtle, they are getting too mainstream and not way OTT like in years gone by, they are starting to address that again and this is just one of many 'crazy' Jap cars to hit the market again.

It is of course aimed at 20 somethings and not 40+ miserable gits like us, and good on them, not for me at all, but nice to see some barmy designs again.

''The Civic looks much more OTT on the outside than the relatively conservative Ford though, and Honda says all of the bodykit provides a proper aerodynamic effect. In fact, all of the wind-tunnel and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics – basically a computerised wind tunnel) work was carried out by Honda’s motorsports division. There’s an almost totally flat underbody panel, which works with a rear diffuser to help suck the Civic down at high speed. The towering rear wing works too, and Honda says it has been designed to provide actual downforce without a severe drag penalty.''

However it drives, the looks are an acquired taste which I will not be acquiring.

I think I'll go for a drive now, if I can find my pipe and my flat cap....

Wow thats in your face lol, But tbf it probably wont break down ;)

There are some equally nice looking cars that come out of Japan though. I've always thought the Nissan S15 with the factory Aero kit is lovely. I had a very tidy RX7 which not only looked nice but had nearly 400 BHP and was a great track day car. I've had a few Jap concept like cars some ugly but all attracted comments they are Subaru SVX (very Captain Scarlett) an Isuzu Vehi-Cross again space age looks it appeared in a few science fiction films. A Pajero Evolution complete with wingtip flutes but this was a serious Paris-Dakar homologation dune burner for the road.

Ha ha ha ...dreadful.

I couldn't imagine driving down the road but I could imagine one of my daft son's or daughter's boyfriend pulling up in it stereo booming etc Lol ...oh dear hope I'm not tempting fate

Therein lies the problem, they haven't. The original concept drawings had a much more integrated and swooping spoiler, rather than the dogs dinner parked on the bootlid that made production.

Even though it is not for me these days - this actually looks a lot better than what they have finally produced.

So, finally saw this in the wild. Strangely enough I saw 2 in the space of 10 mins in Broadway (Cottswoldshire) this afternoon.

I came to the conclusion that I would have thought they were great when I was in my late-teens / early twenties, but now as an adult I would feel ashamed even being a passenger in one...!

I "may" have added the odd enhancement to my warm hatches when I was younger  but nothing so transformer as that (I needed more lights )

However, I was, for the first time, in one of these recently and the younger than I owner did demonstrate the fantastic engine (no humour there, it's a screamer)

But really......?

He keeps it north of 5k as that's where the power is (the ride is hard also)
His MPG is no better than my CLK as a result
And Mr KHZ, yours would just pass one without all the exertion, the planning and spectacle of these effort machines (and yours sound soooo much better)

I'd not seen the rear of CTR for a while :D:D:D
There is a long standing (and one sided) rivalry between them and the old farts Saab community (which when remapped / noobed......)

I'd far rather have something that stood out if I was going to buy a hot hatch than something that is half done like the Focus RS.

Not something I would expect those who prefer German four door saloon's to agree with really, so not surprised that most wouldn't like it. But life would be boring if everyone one was the same.

Traditionally, Mercedes Benz E Class owners were all retirees who could NOW afford to buy their dream car, but times have changed. More and more pre-retirees are buying Mercs because they can afford to without dipping in to their pension pot.

On the flip side of the coin, Honda have always aimed their cars at the elderly end of the market, and it is extremely rare to find anyone below the age of 80 driving a Honda.

The new Civic Type R is firmly aimed at those reaching their 90's and going in to their second childhood.

Well, that's my theory anyway.

C63 Owner: Well, my car hits 0 to 60 in 5.4 seconds.

BMW Owner: Well, my car gets to 60 in 5.3 seconds.

Honda Owner: My car is RELIABLE.

:thumb:

It's the same in the bike world. The fun bikes such as Suzuki, Yamaha, Triumph, Aprilia and Ducati make your heart race, while the Honda is noted for its RELIABILITY.

Now that is definitely a pipe and slippers moment.

To be brutally honest though, after driving an Astra VXR pumping 280bhp through the front wheels in 'Sport' mode, if I wanted a fast Hatch, I'd pick the A45 4Matic simply because it can put the power down properly. With that sort of BHP coming out of an engine, it has to be 4WD or RWD. Front Wheel Drive has too much torque steer and puts too much stress on the steering gear for my liking.

(Although fighting the steering wheel can be quite fun when you are wide awake, it is also tiresome after an hour or so).

I'd need to see the picture that doodle posted again to re-judge this comment.

I'm glad I've seen this post again as I'd not seen one in the flesh first time around.

A car exactly like the one in the first picture turned up not far from where I live not so long ago and when I first saw it, I'd clearly forgotten about this thread and was horrified.

What was even worse was the guy driving it was certainly not in his teens, 20s or 30s.

Absolutely shocking in the flesh. I feel embarrassed for the driver of it.

Sometimes cars can be a bit of a guilty pleasure but I think Honda have gone from something that looks cool in the 54 plate type shape to cool in the 08 type shape to a crock that is way too much.

But tbf it probably wont break down ;)

...or rust.

Same here ;)

You haven't seen the "ricer" brigade then. For decades now the Civic's of the world have been sought after by the modified car community.

Real Jekyll and Hyde brand with the Accord being for the old and the Jazz being for the very old :D

Only Honda I ever owned was a Legend 2 door coupe....2.7 V6, burgundy with cream leather, absolutely nuclear bomb proof, only thing I ever changed was pads / oil / plugs and a CV joint gaiter.
