AMG GT has arrived

Love to see the pics but that Apple gear you are uploading with prevents me viewing on a "proper" PC:D

Hah, my spy's are everywhere. C 63 coupe?

Lol....I'm starting to think you're secretly Andres or James of MB Derby :p

Correct though :D

The question is what to do in the meantime - I don't really want to keep the GLE and take a hit on it when I know it's going (but then aren't they all lol).

The other issue is, whilst I really (really!) like the GLE, it's very similar to the ML63 (as I expected) so I struggle to get round the percieved value when the ML was soooo much cheaper - not a fair comparison as one is new, one is used but in the cold harsh reality, that's the situation. So my thoughts are to get rid now with minimal loss and I might buy my old E63 back in the meantime.

If you do buy your 63 back you will have come full circle. I also feel the same way about my ML, although I have kept it for a little longer than you (3 years). I am looking to change my 350 Bluetec for a 450 AMG. Not really a fan of diesels, but when I bought my 350 that was all that was available unless I went for a 63.
Don't know about you Andrew but I still regret selling my SLS :wallbash:
So, if anyone is looking for a very nice 20k miles ML 350 Sport Bluetec, silver with black, full MBSH and 10k worth of extras send me a PM

Noooooooo, what's wrong with the GLE!?!?!?

Nothing at all, I love it.

But it does have a problem....the ML63 we owned previously. They are VERY similar (which I anticipated) so I can't get my head round the forty thousand pounds difference.

If you hadn't had an ML63 before you'd not question it because the GLE really does feel worth every bit of its cost....in isolation. Quite honestly, I should never have sold the ML, it's one of my biggest regrets in terms of cars we've sold. But you know what I'm like  I don't normally feel like this but the ML was so much for such a reasonable cost, it's really hard to justify so much more.

Additionally, that C63 coupe is much nicer than I'd ever anticipated so we're just destined to get one. It's also technically the other half's car and when she says she'd prefer the C63 (my original C63 is still her favourite car!) I may as well sort out the inevitable sooner rather than later so I don't take a shoeing!

I will always regret selling the SLS, I did the day it went.

The GT drives so much better (embarrassingly so for the SLS) so the regret is not at all related to the day to day driving experience. It's more to do with all the intangible aspects of owning an 'SLS' - I won't miss it when I drive the GT, but I miss knowing I don't have an SLS in the garage, if you know what I mean?

Unfortunately I'm not successful enough to have both :(. Must work harder, or smarter

I'm sure you're aware but just be conscious that the GLE will seem very similar to the car you've had for the last three years....probably not a problem for most but I have the attention span of a gnat!

At least you're going from a 350 diesel to a 450 petrol so it should feel adequately differen. Mechanically, my ML and GLE are all but identical.

I really do recommend the fully active air suspension with anti curve function - the AMG gets it as standard but it's optional on the 450. We've been driving an ML250 without this suspension as our courtesy car for the last few months and the difference is night and day - I'd never guess the 63's were based on the same chassis as the cooking models!

Actually Andrew, as the 450 is petrol I feel that it will be different enough, particularly as MB have tuned the exhaust to sound similar to the AMG, pops and farts on lift off and down change etc. I do tend to change my cars quite frequently (in your league thought). Still having trouble getting a dealer to supply a 450 demo, plenty of 350's though.
The next 7 days are going to go very slowly for you

I never quite understood why you sold the SLS, that really was quite a lovely car. I also wonder if you'll ever find the perfect car for yourself. However your thought processes are always interesting and the forum would be a duller place without you.

But you must be doing your b0ll0cks on PCP arrangements or however you buy these cars?

I agree, I think moving to the petrol will make it considerably different.

You can understand what I mean though, in that the two 63 AMG versions are all but identical.

I know my approach doesn't resonate with a lot of people, but for me, it's quite simple - I like trying different cars. The SLS was superb as a garage queen, something to cherish and roll out for the weekend. OK, it was also phenomenal to drive. But I don't work like that - I have one car and like to use it, get my enjoyment out of it and then try something else. The SLS is not as good to drive as the GT and it's technology is relatively dated - for a daily car, these things matter (at least to me).

But let's not beat around the bush - this 'hobby' costs me money. It's all about the experience of enjoying different cars. People tend to spend their money on things that give them an experience that they enjoy (e.g. why else does one go on holiday when there's nothing to show for it when you get home?) and its no different for me and buying cars really.

Some would say that I should join a supercar club and I have looked into this. But the reality is, they cost considerably more than I 'lose' in depreciation and come with all sorts of time and/or mileage limitations. Finally, many of the cars I've bought have either lost an inconsequential amount (especially when I buy used) or in a couple of cases, have been profitable....nearly 20% of my GT has been 'funded' by my last SLS.

Agreed on the supercar club. I just can't make it work for me either.

I see the photo's now through the pistonheads link. It's a real stunner! Enjoy!

Have to say though Andrew your SLS was Stunning

After the extra long wait, I bet you can't wait until Friday. Have fun, and fingers crossed for a dry day to enjoy it on :) :)
