Have been talking to the wife -- usual conversation regarding cars -- Do we really NEED two cars ???

So on the calendar have been marking as follows

0 = used only one car this day
x = used two cars but could have used only one with planning
xx = used two cars and needed two cars.

July's results only one xx day ....:(

If come end of year its rare to see a xx then may (note said may) reduce to one...

Trouble then is which one to get rid of hers (CR-V) or mine (merc) ...silly Q..:D

Be interesting to see the results.. We have one car and the bike (scooter gone) and manage fine but then Mrs B works with me and even then only 3 days a week, and I can walk to work.

Interesting experiment Crockers.
What also would be interesting would be to see how many days you didn't use a car at all and what mileages were covered, say within bands.

For the times when you require two cars renting one would be cheaper.

Even a taxi would be cheaper - turns up when you want it to and no hassles with parking !

An interesting experiment

Maybe I should do that against the 4 cars currently owned in our household.

Interesting experiment - one we have been thinking about, the trouble is the cars we have (My 5 & Angie's Civic plus use of my dad's Smart) are all better suited for different things.

And if you aren't using one as much as the others, the one time you do is a necessity, a bit like an insurance policy.

Going off topic but need a rant, where are speed bumps most found - in town? Which is the best car for town but worst for speed bumps - The Smart, Best for bumps worst for town - The 5 Series.

The people who come up with these ideas should get a grip on reality!!

now that really is a womans thought train.

Why do YOU need YOUR car when mine does the job perfectly well!

So here is how you deal with it. You mark the calendar with everyday you needed to woman in the house, and if at the end of the year there are less 2 xx's to your 1 x, you can pack her bags in her car and hey presto, instant savings of 1 road fund licence, 1 car insurnace, 25% off the council tax, and think of the food and energy savings, not to mention the hairdressing, shoe buying, flower demands.

Discuss that with her, then see what the solution is!

If she gets up and leaves in a huff don't blame me. If she sees that is just an economy argument, then sell her car right now, and stop buying shoes, hairdressing and other such things that cost money you don't want to spend, and if she doesn't like that, why should you sell yours for the exact same argument?

Or tell her to stop worrying and live your life the way you both want, thats the way to a good happy life.

And a few :D :D :D :D :D :D in case someone gets the wrong end of the stick.

We did a similar monitoring exercise when we finally got rid of the MPVs that had been my company cars for many years - it occurred to us that we were driving this bus around and it often had spare seats (usual cause - teenagers, becoming late teens/early twenties, family trips get fewer and farther between). So we monitored for three months, thinking that if we used over 5 seats on less than say a couple of times per month, we could easily manage with an estate and my wife's small car, and just take both cars if we needed to carry more people occasionally. The result of the exercise was to show that over the quarter we never did have more than 5 in the car...so out went the people carrier and in came a high performance german diesel estate :D

Some good points here and we (the mrs and I) have talked about it alot.

We have (me) RR and CLK and she has the 7 seater Gand Voyager. Now we very rarely carry 7 or even 5 in th MPV. So lets get shot of that and the RR and get a Q7. It has occasional 7 seats (ie 5 + 2). That way I get to keep a 4X4 and we get to have 7 seats if we need them.

I'm afraid it goes without saying I'm keeping the CLK..:D

It's a real eye-opener when you actually think about your car use. I've not owned a car for over 2 months now and can count the occasions when it's been a pain on one hand.

Admittedly it really helps that I live in the city centre, can easily cycle to work and get free bus travel.

But it makes me think whether I actually need a car (Hire, taxi, car club) to get things done. More often than not, I just end up walking.

I work 2 weekends in 4, and generally go away 1 weekend a month. Trawling the local car hire companies, I can rent something decent like a Nissan X-Trail for under £100 for that (Long) weekend...

Which is £25 less than I used to pay each month for a parking space

If I may?

Correction...

Now d'ya see:D :D

Still not exactly right, but I cannot figure out the joke even with the correct maths. But this is no problem for me, I don't have to convince my wife we need two cars. :D

Anyone heard the binary joke ?

111011
11011011
101
111011

110011001 !

Cracks me up everytime :D

What goes "pieces of seven, pieces of seven"?

A parroty error..

I'll get me coat.

Cheers,

Gaz

I thought the binary joke was.

There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary and those that don't

Hey,
What's all this talk about shoes and hairdressing being a waste of money - such luxuries that us ladies need to keep us functioning - just as a car needs fuel, servicing, loving.

That's all us girlies need too.......shoes are like Spark Plugs except we need them each month, sometimes weekly if we're heavy on the pedal!

Hairdressing is like valeting - an essential to keep us your natural shine!

Fuel - well, that's got to be wining and dining....if you put crap stuff in us....we come out with a load of crap.

And on that note gentlemen, I'll bow out gracefully.
