Another 'where did you get your wheels refurbed' thread...

Sorry man i forgot about this thread. Yeah had them done in standard silver and I am very pleased with them. I've done some miles since last week so they are rather dirty now. When I get a chance to wash them I'll post a picture but definitely worth it. I dropped the car off at 7am Monday and they called me on Wednesday afternoon to say they were ready so a quick turnaround too (and they dropped me off and picked me up from the train station as well).

I recently had mine done at Alloy Wheel Refurbishment UK (AWRUK). Their work is excellent and they check for damage/buckles to ensure the wheel is running true. They pride themselves in doing the work correctly and have developed their own machines and lathes which they also sell. Recently (on their social media) they have done some rare Ferrari wheels, 24" Bentayga wheels and some Mercedes monoblock wheels. If you are in the Midlands, I would definitely recommend them. They may even do a postal service but cannot be sure.

The people who did my wheel now do a mobile wheel recutting service. Alloy Logic based in Colchester. Maybe other mobile wheel refurbers will follow suit

As promised, it finally stopped raining long enough to clean and photo the refurbed alloys. Sorry for the poor quality but my phone is a bit old. All i need to do now are the wheel nuts then I will be done. Looking for some silver caps to go over them but can only find chrome silver. Looked on ebay and they do all the other colours except silver!

Why not black caps for the wheel nuts as you’ve chosen the black centre caps .. should tie in nicely ...

Didn't cross my mind to use the black ones to match the centre caps. I'll look into them now and, its just occurred to me while writing this, if I don't like them i can always spray them silver :thumb::thumb:

Just had our 203 done at Powdertec in Glasgow. Lovely job. It has SLK55 turbines on it and they went milky so had them done factory silver. Perfect now.

Hi all,

I think I've decided to go with Primo Alloys in Guildford, mainly trying to balance price and logistics (it's my only car so can't leave the car with them unless I'm in London/Surrey visiting family).

I was put off BJV engineering as, although they're doing their winter 20% discount, it only counts if you leave your car with them... If you want to give them the wheels, it actually costs more, which is just weird! I asked a couple of times and they simply wouldn't do the discount on the wheel drop off only, which I think is bizarre (are they going to use the car as the staff taxi?), so it's not worth the inconvenience of them being in the middle of nowhere.

Primo Alloy prices for 4 x 18" powder coated with a 'special' finish (shadow chrome):

- £75+vat per wheel on car = £360
- £65+vat per wheel (with tyres) = £312 (£8 cheaper than the online quote somehow made it more palatable!)

2 working day turnaround

I can visit my brother's house not too far away, jack up the car, take the wheels in his car, and then get them back 2 days later and ceramic coat them.

Will be trying to get this done in the next 2-3 weeks (whenever I'm back in London/Guildford area) and will post before/after pics, of course!

Interested in any more experiences with Primo Alloys before then, too!

Cheers,

Ed

After lots of failed attempts due to turn around time, I finally made a decision. Booked my car into First Aid Wheels for their wheel exchange program, £360 for shadow chrome, this Friday. As it's my only car, the 1-hour turn around thing was worth the extra £50 or so.

Will get it done then coat them in C5 over the weekend, hopefully.

Took my car to First Aid Wheels for the exchange today (shadow chrome) and so far the experience has been awful.

3 of the 4 wheels had issues. It was supposed to be a one hour swap and I was there at least 2 hours, while they faffed about and one guy tried to tell me that 'they're refurbed so nothing's perfect' - even though the problem is clearly down to incompetence during the spraying. There is clearly crap under the clear coat! There's a picture of that attached below.

Another wheel had a single fleck that they tried to polish out (was still visible after polishing but I would have accepted it just to get out of there) and they wouldn't even show me one wheel as the paint around the nut holes flaked badly when fitting.

So, I've been given 4 C-Class loan wheels (final pictures) and was supposed to go back tomorrow once they've fixed the mistakes. However as I was leaving the chap said it was likely to be Monday as he didn't want to rush it.

The whole point of paying the premium for the wheel exchange program is that it's done quickly. If I wanted it to take 3-4 days I would have taken it anywhere else and paid less. The head guy there is nice enough but it was still a bit of an embarrassing display of incompetence.

I came from Cardiff to London to get the wheels done, then I could ceramic coat them over the weekend and let coating dry. Now I can't do that.

While the shadow chrome looks good, after seeing the (knackered and ill-fitting) C-Class wheels, I almost wish I'd just bought a newer set of wheels off eBay.

We'll see how things transpire...

How did you get on with First Aid Wheels in the end?

BTW, I just noticed your post regards BJV - I think you must have got mistaken regards their pricing?

I was put off BJV engineering as, although they're doing their winter 20% discount, it only counts if you leave your car with them... If you want to give them the wheels, it actually costs more, which is just weird! I asked a couple of times and they simply wouldn't do the discount on the wheel drop off only, which I think is bizarre (are they going to use the car as the staff taxi?), so it's not worth the inconvenience of them being in the middle of nowhere.

Here is their price list:

Our Prices - Wheel Refurbishing

Set of four wheels up to 20” (which yours are) is £192 including VAT

Car stored on site price (which obviously includes tyre removal/refitting, balancing, new valves) is £276 including VAT. Their winter offer to cover the cost of VAT would make that £230?

How is it cheaper to leave the car on site? Even adding the cost of tyre fitting it doesn’t add up to me :)

The car on site deal is only offered during the winter months as they have limited space to store cars and get quite busy during the spring/summer months. And I can’t see them using your car as a taxi either - where are they going to take it with no wheels on it...? :dk:

I am too annoyed to post more at the moment, but all I can say is please avoid First Aid Wheels. They have been nothing but incompetent and have wasted days of my life and £400 of my money. And the wheels now have a finish that will flake off if you so much as look at them.

I'm not sure what to do, I'm not sure if I can go back to them and complain (again) because I am currently too annoyed by the whole process.

Cardiff to London .

Surely there are better places closer ?

Silver wheels Ferndown, diamond cut AMG’s like factory finish when new

Apologies: I come to this process too late in the day.

I would have said that Lepsons are generally said to be one of the best services around London. (They're in Gillingham). I'm certain that most quick / mobile services deliver "limited" quality compared to their "industrialised" process.

Worth a look. Think about what they do. It's a mucky demanding, high risk, process.

It's down to the individual to work out what quality / price works for you
