Anyone familar with Porsche Boxsters?

I'm sure a few of the boxster guys are using tesco warranties iirc. They won't cover 911s though. I think catastrophic is relatively rare given the numbers of 996's sold. Hartech have an excellent reputation for a maintenance plan which covers this risk. Otherwise 7k for a rebuild from autofarm.

I have read about a lot of Boxster owners on boxa.net who have bought the Tesco 'finest' car warranty. About £55 I think. I did a quote on Warranty wise which included wear and tear cover and it came out at about £72/month.

Hartech, which is close to me, have their maintenance plan, it covers standard servicing and just the labour element of any repairs. The customer pays for the parts. Not sure if I would be comfortable with this.

I was tipped off on the Tesco Warranty from a link on MBClub to a Boxster forum, and now have one on my C32.

because Tesco has 3.5 liter engine size limit

£339 for a year, which I thought was reasonable for the cover it offerred. Not had to use it yet - and hope I don't need to - so can't say how well they handle claims.

Of course it's actually through a third party, but I think having the Tesco name associated with it means that if there's a problem there should be some leverage to be had in getting it resolved.

They offer three levels of cover dependent upon age and mileage - mine is the middle one, with Finest above, and Value below. Approximately one third of the cost of the MB Tier 2 Warranty.

Which is the reason my crank knocked out as the bearings in my wifes washing machine are more heavy duty than those in the 986.

In case you have not seen my other posts this is one of the businesses we will be incorporating in our new Performance and Prestige Service centre that we will be opening shortly.

What? You're gonna be repairing washing machines? Or using their bearings ?:D:D

Washing machines these days are a bit like 986 engines............ Disposable:crazy:

If Porsche had used the bearings from our Bosch washing machine I reckon the crank would have been just fine :D

Wow thanks for that Bobby, it does seems unbelievably reasonable and as you say a third of the cost of the MB equivilant, (not forgetting the £900 odd inspection MB want to do before they underwrite it despite having a FMBSH and they've known the car and how its been looked after since day one.

When you say arranged through a third party is that via your insurance company?

I might just have a slice of that action too at that cost you talk of. Does having a FMBSH on the car make a difference to the premium at all?? Or is it purely based on the criteria you outline.

Many thanks
Matt

The actual warranty - an insurance product really - is actually provided by a specialist third party which is not actually Tesco.

Tesco apply their brand to it though and inevitabley take a cut, in the same way they would with other Tesco financial services, eg credit cards, pet insurance, car insurance, etc.

Having the Tesco brand associated with it gives me a little more confidence.

I don't recall the position regarding FSH - I didn't have to think about it as I do have FMBSH - a quick call should sort that though.

I contacted them when taking out my policy to check that superchargers are covered - turbochargers are mentioned specifically, but not SC - they quickly checked with the underwriters, and IIRC sent me an email to confirm.

OK well like you I have a FMBDSH on both my cars, so if that was a criteria then it shouldn't be an issue. Guess the next step is ring Tesco and see what they have to say......Many thanks.

Apparently Tesco are no longer covering Boxsters.

I'd call asap re C32

apparently Tesco is getting out of the car warranty business altogether.

That would be a shame, I have Tesco cover at the moment. 1 claim so far for over 4 times the cost of the cover and absolutely quibble free.

I think that all MBs have to go on Finest Cover, about £425 premium and they won't cover anything over 3.5 litre.
