Hey all,
I just filled up the car tonight and after that I was giving it some stick...
Anyway, is it me or is it reality that, the car is reasonably slower when the tank is full, due to the heavy petrol carried by the car?
Or am I talking total bullpoo?

if your tank holds 80 lts then that = 76.9kg or 12 stone so the effect of losing 11-12 stone would be like a adult getting out so YES i think it would make a differance :)

Can't remember how much an E class weighs, let's say 1,800kgs
therefore 80/1800 = about 4% vehicle weight.

I never knew my W124 E220 weighs so much?!
I thought it would be in the 1400-1500kg margin..

Surely in normal driving conditions the effect should be neglible. (Unless you are using fuel with a very high lead content :) )

Yes the empty tank is much lighter than a tank full of fuel, but unless you are driving the vehicle to its limits then I would suggest there should not be much difference.

Does the car feel sluggish when you carry just the one front seat passenger? If the answer is yes, then I accept that I am wrong, if the answer is no then I stand by my post.

Take care, and take the lead out of the car,
John

Yes, I can feel the performance loss with a single passenger.

However, I always think the car pulls better with more fuel than a low tank. Probably just my mind playing tricks.....

I don't think its your mind at all, I think you're probably right... with a full tank you'll have more weight directly over the driving wheels thus improving traction.

can't say I've ever thought about it - but I mayjustthe next time I get to play and need to fill up. Poor Edna's getting very p'd off with me not being around to play :(

But when I do fill her up - it's normally a let's have fun moment so it's foot to the floor. Will try and think to see if I can feel the diff. By rights you should!

Just checked with 'She that must be obeyed' She does not notice any noticeable difference in performance when driving the Sprinter with me in it or not. (I weigh just over 18stone)

Likewise I asked about the car and just used the low fuel and full tank of fuel.
