Anyone for full Carsoft diagnostics?

stats007

It's EXACTLY the project I was looking for a year ago, something to really get my .net teeth into and gain some hardware interface .net skills - no problems with MFC but .net is full of required dll interfacing and using p/invock when something slightly technical comes alone..

A nice .net GUI to analyse the RS232 stream from this multiplexer would be better than even Carsoft's current product as in my opinion (looking at screen ggrabs from the net) it rather clunky and 'old'. Followed by a port to PDA - maybe using WinMobile 6 :)

As I mentioned, if this was last year I would have jumped at the chance, but I'm right in the middle of another project which will consume probably 6 months or more of my time so haven't much to spare unfortunately.

This could also be considered for commercialisation, but one would seriously need to analyse the implications of using a cloned box, or better still, design new hardware from the ground up = big project = lots of time !

Looking forward to your thoughts..

It doesn't have to be fancy - a simple DOS App using Open GL should be enough for now - port it to .net later if you want to - I hate Windows programming anyway!

You can be certain of that. I know of one company running into the millions + several years are they are still waiting to get into the market.

Or you could do an embedded Linux flavor if you don't like Windoz - maybe use one of those 'inexpensive' dev kits with integral LCD?

Oh I got that one already - from what I can see it is actually closely related to devicenet -

and I still can't switch off the bloody airbag light .

I expect that the nice people at Carsoft will supply it if they can ever be ****d to reply to an email - assuming of course that my question wasn't too benign for them to reply to .
You wouldn't be suggesting a cracked copy would you ? you naughty , naughty boy .
The answer to your question does seem to be yes , a copy of Carsoft and the Oki-Koki 2000 housebrick with cables will allow you to talk to your car - it is so good , you can even change a standard 'C' Class into a CLK , just by using your laptop.

Hi

Very interested in this as a diagnostics tool, as to whether i would go for a cracked copy or whatever would come down to price at the end of the day.

Principles can be expensive:eek:

Hi

Yes principles are very expensive, the decision on whether to buy a £15 DVD or a £4 copy are much simpler. But when it comes to this type of thing the decision is much more difficult to make although i know what way i would end up heading.

I haven't read the full EULA but I would be surprised if you could purchase the software legally from Carsoft without their hardware - is this possible stats007?

Also, I wonder if Carsoft had considered the eventuality of their hardware being cloned? Risky business this software stuff !!

I wonder if version 8 would work, or has the interface changed? ... naughty, naughty..

Guys
I've looked into the 3 or 4 different types of interface for Carsoft and from the information I have found the "clones" don't perform all the functions of the original hardware and i believe you have to swap cables within the plug.

Has anyone actually tried this item with success? If you google it you will find on another forum in the US that someone has tried the various software versions with the clones and it seems to do a hardware check prior to running.

For the record you can get a refurbished original with V7.6 for £1100 ex VAT or £1499 ex VAT for V8.0 from the UK distributor.

Rear Sam coding for the W203 has been added in V8.

Look forward to hearing the outcome of this one.

Lea have you had any success with this? Any screen grabs of live data or anything?

I'll let you know in a couple of days - I have bought a non-multiplexer adaptor . There are many of these floating around - what you would want one for when it is supplied with the software is anyones guess .
Unless carsoft don't have internet access (which is possible bearing in mind they never replay to an email) , they couldn't possibly not know that the latest software is available everywhere ( I believe that the "crack" artists are even writing their own service packs )

has anyone thought about the Launch X431, don't know why I cant paste here launchtech,uk.co

This covers exactly the same as the carsoft 8. at a lecture at the recent car MechanicEx the guy giving the talk uses one, there is one more out there somewhere, but I cant find it today. On line it cost £1,750 against £2.2 from the agents. it comes with the 38 pin and the 16 pin OBD2 connectore and everything else. it is a self contained hand held unit.

I will post details of the other one when I find it. I will buy either the carsoft 8 or the Launchtech, then if anyone down here in the SW can get help.
This unit will also do many others like Audi-Volvo-BMW-Ford and many more

Contrary to some believe, I haven't bought a 'wang tang' multiplexer or have Carsoft :( so can't help I'm afraid. Mind-you, I can't say I'm not hoping one of my fellow R129 owners to purchase and post their findings in full :)

"I've been waiting for this beauty from these Chinese guys for 6 months...now it's here."

Was the link wrong and you bought a bowl of noodles ?

Well as reported I am now the proud owner of a hoki-koki 2000 ODB brick - I have installed some software (i'll leave it at that) on a toshiba libretto mini laptop and it all looks good . The only comment I would make is to make sure that whatever software you use is late enough to be compatible with your car . Seems that April 2003 is the cut off date for most cars .
So if anyone wants to have a play and their car isnt brand new - we stand a chance ........

Hope you get on well with the ODB-II scanner you have purchased, but alas it's of only minimal interest to those of us with elder multiplexed outputs, hence the excitement of a full multiplexed 'bowl of noodles' ;)
