anyone used the android OBD scanners

I'm just curious how would the OBD apps show consumption on a car such as w202 models without trip computer function

Has anyone managed to get a BT or WIFI adapter that will actually reset fault codes on the more recent models? I've tried one of these mini adapters and this larger one that have worked with my previous car but not my current W204 59 plate c250. They both read the fault code my car had but failed to delete it.

Edit I forgot to say I'm using this with a full version of Torque with Android.

I've got both of those adapters. I had the larger one and the wife the mini, but the large one didn't work in my Volvo, so I swapped with her. The mini works in the Merc but haven't tested the larger one yet.

Thanks for the info Krisby, is that in your w203? I suspect it's that the device(s) aren't fully compatible with some of the newer protocols.

I've had them both read and erase errors on other cars my 54 plate Alfa, and on mates cars 57 plate Ford Mondeo, ?? Fiesta but on the w204 it reads but won't clear the code. on all the updates for Torque they state that there are some incompatibility issues with some newer cars and the more budget adapters. But some surely must work.

which do you reccomend especially for an older 1997 car

You will have to test and see. If you buy the items I suggested that's not very much money and you can use the OBD device on other cars if it doesn't work (basically all cars since 2000 and up at least).

But in theory it should I work I guess.

It is likely both do work in the W203, but they didn't in the Ovolo, and I haven't tested the large one as it is in the wifes car. The mini worked so I've kept with it, give me more knee room.

Say you were having battery drain issues and your instrument cluster/dials sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Would this help by throwing up some helpful codes as to the causes

Worth a try for £5/£6! Also very useful when buying a used car so you can execute a quick fault code scan!

No, I had drain issues on my E39 last year, but no code is thrown. In my case I just had to keep pulling fuses until the car finally went into sleep mode (about 16 minutes after car locked).

Just remember the OBD dongles can also cause drain, I went on holiday to Tenerife and came back to a flat battery, couldn't understand why as everything was off, until I saw the dongle still plugged in, doh!

Might be a case of doing the same thing with the Merc, though I've read the convenience setting can cause this. Personally, I turned off the seat/mirror witchcraft thing when I first got the car.

Yep, I had coils replaced on a Toledo V5 because it was throwing codes, I told the dealer they had a deal if they replaced coils 2 and 5.

Finally received all the gear from ebay.

So where on the car is the scanner connection on a 1997 c250TD?

EU regs mean that the OBD2 socket for ALL cars needs to be within a foot or thereabouts from the steering wheel. Often hidden by a cover it'll mean getting on your knees with a torch.

I see you have a 97' year w202. Most if not all w202's have a connector under the bonnet in the engine compartment and not close to the steering column! It's a squarish box close against the rear bulkhead with a cap similar to an oil cap! You also need a specific cable to connect. See post #10 for the type needed. Without this cable, no way you can get into the electronics.

Yeah I ordered the 16 pin connector too
