C180 avantgarde apparantly with sat nav that I can't turn off!

Just gotten hold of the 55 plate, and in my eagerness to play I pressed a button (between the gear shift and the centre console box, and marked with Tm) and lo and behold a very sweet lady told me the directions to london!

All very handy but not where I wanted to go!!!

Tried all I could think of to turn off and found to my dismay that prolonged pressure on the button connected me automatically to a control centre operator who asked me where I wanted to go.

What the heck is this system... there is no visible interface and the radio display only appears to cover radio and cd player.

Please help...I don't want to be directed to London forever!!!

Dont worry about going to London everytime, from my experience with Smartnav you wont complete a journey without loosing the signal, being re-routed, getting the directions in the wrong order, and finishing at the wrong destination.

Would I have it fitted again? Errrr NO

It works but is borderline crap. My brother in law found this came in his company Vauxhall in lieu of the desired full SatNav. Although the one he has also provides a scummy visual display, seems to him (and me) that the concept is flawed.

To get directions you have to speak to a human at a call centre and then say where you want to go. Instructions get sent to your unit and the voice directions issued and shown on the (optional) display But it seems to change its mind quite a bit perhaps because it is linkled to Trafficmaster. If you never quite get to the intended destination tends to keep trying to send you there until you do something, presumably speaking to the call centre again

Now his was was part of a company deal and includes a Tracker service, but rather worryingly for him enables his employer to to track the whereabouts of any vehicle in their fleet in real time. His manic boss has discovered how to do that and now uses this as an instrument to demonstrate his "power" over his UK sales force, usually on a Friday afternoon. They are not happy.

Sounds like ye needs to find that gps receiver location in the car and "sheild" it come friday lunchtime.

Does anyone know what the cost of SmartNav is? - the ongoing costs, rather than the install cost, that is.

Thanks

Philip

I *think* the employee has to agree to this? Obviously, even if that's true, it might be a case of like it or lump it, but that would surely be constructive dismissal.

Its about £8 per month, depending on usage, probably £7.99 more than its worth.:(
