Picked up some Mobil1 oil from Costco yesterday, half price: £9.97 plus VAT for 4 litres

So I bought 24 litres!! I couldn't fit any more in the trolley!! :D

Where was that Bobby? Which Costco? I recently went and no half price

I was in today too but they had none, they are stopping stocking it according to our local branch (Sheffield) so probably the reason for the offer, ended up coming away dissappointed. So if thats the cheap source gone then will probably order some synthetic from Fuchs, but will try the Leeds Branch tomorrow first.

Costco Birmingham. All sold out of regular, only Turbo Diesel left.

I've read before that Mobil 1 and Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel is fundamentally the same stuff and the dealer uses the same oil for all cars, regardless of fuel type.

Well it got me thinking whether it's safe to use in the "opposite" engine type, and so contacted Mobil's technical help desk. A superb service - a very helpful chap has been exchanging emails with me, and here are a few key points...

Yes, in your case you can use both types of oils (Mobil 1 0W-40, Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 0W-40) for both cars. You can also mix these oils. Please find lubrication charts attached to this message. These oils are not completely the same because of specifications. We did not get some specs for petrol cars for Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 0W-40. But if we are talking about Mercedes-Benz specs - it's ok to use Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 0W-40 in petrol engines also.

I'm confirming that it's ok to use Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 0W-40 in your petrol engined C32 AMG.

Differences are in some specs only, which are not related to Mercedes-Benz.

That's easy - you buy some already run-in oil from Rovinghawk. :)
Used Fuchs Titan Supersyn- 6000 miles of use, so right in the middle of its ideal PH range. I'm an imperial kind of guy, so #50 per gallon? (4.54609L)

Rory- 7.5% commission on any business you put my way.

Can't see the harm in using cheaper full synthetic for top ups.

Not on your car.

You car needs quite a specific oil. 229.51 spec ONLY

A very knowleagable mechanic friend of mine, told me not to worry to much about spending a fortune on the oil, it's regularly changing it (as manufacturer recommends) that's the main thing, you don't need expensive stuff.
