atf dipstick where can i buy?

the dealers wont sell you one due to new rules in place, but i had to buy another one and ordered from the inchcape website... it arrived today...

does anyone know if the markings are correct for engine oil too?
Very unlikely. I would not take a chance on that. But since you have suggested it, I am going to use the G/box dipstick on the engine to see how far up the coil it shows. Will let you know the result.

Dealers don't sell a lot of things to customers i don't know of any MB/MBUK rules that say its prohibited but they could have a company policy preventing it or 90% of the time can't be bothered and/or have a lack of understanding on whats available to them.

Solution is simple use another dealer, for instance Inchcape got you the part you wanted.

Dan,

These are my trade counter, they showed me the letter they got from HQ..

Anyway, i think some other dealers are not up to date... they all seem to have different rules, even on things like ordering keys etc..

The inchcape website is basically a guy sitting in the parts department of Mercedes Oxford and so he probably didnt know it wasnt allowed yet... Either way, i got one...

I had a C220 CDI recently that had the hole for engine oil, but no dipstick..

I tried the dipstick, but obviously markings made no sense as the level was into the metal bit...

The car level indicator thing was playing up and kept asking us to WAIT so we just put in the recommended 6.5 Litres... No error messages as of yet, however i dont trust car computers....

im sure there was a chart somewhere once that told you how many mm up the dipstick the correct oil level should reach... cant find it now..

We've not received anything yet mate if the letter was sent out to us perhaps its got lost in the post somewhere (not had anything via the web either), i sure hope it has.

Don't they have to supply workshop parts to indy's mate? I thought just like they had to give you the software packages they also had to ensure you could order the parts?

It's still down to the dealer at the end of the day nothings stopping them from ordering the parts without them being tied to a specific car if MB where to question them they could just have a clumsy tech who needs a constant feed of new tools to replace the broken ones right :)

G/Box dipstick inserted into engine stick dipstick tube. Oil level way up on the coil part of the stick. Forget this, not a reliable method to judge. Stay with the elecronic method on the instrument cluster.

Took some piccies of mine, for a 722.6 gearbox (printed clearly on the handle)

The coiled part is 108 cm long.

The black tab measures 25 degrees, and 80 degrees. The lower extent of 25' is 9mm, upper extent is 20mm. Lower extent of 80' is 53mm, upper extent is 64mm.

All i can say is, that if MB now have a policy on only supplying authorised dealers with w/shop tools, it really stinks and would have an impact on my next choice of car. i was able to buy a dipstick 18 months ago from my local dealer, i was also able to buy w/shop tools for my Jaguar from the dealer no problem, but i was also able to buy these from the jaguar owners club (without being a member) so this begs a question, are these tools available outside of the MB dealer network? During the course of my work we have a kind of partnership with DCUK, as we sell equipment used on the Unimog vehicles, and have ordered parts from the local Unimog dealer, so if you have a nearby Unimog dealer and the part number of the tool required, this may be a way of getting around any of MB's ridiculous policies.
MB have been very crafty about getting around the new rules on servicing of vehicles and warranties, which may make good business sense to them( for instance, they no longer have the long term corrosion warranty! this being part of the long term care package, which only lasts two years, but is renewed free of charge when the vehicle is serviced by an MB dealer) But it really p****s me off and makes ownership of the marque much less appealing to someone like me, who does all his own servicing and repairs and helps keep the residual values of older Mercs with higher mileages, which i normaly buy.

changed atf filter&new sump gasket.Drained 6.050 liters out.Drove approx 30miles on sat&sun, noticed smoother gear changes.Drove 3miles to work on mon, when parking car noticed very little traction in D&R.Removed ign key, restarted engine selected D,everything ok &has been ok up to now since this worrying incident.Any surgestions as to why this happend?

electronic glitch probably...

how much ATF went in?

6.050 L (same as came out) Using parrot of dooms diagram,i made a dipstick out of white net curtain wire.Befor draining i checked atf level (when hot) which was 5mm above the max level. The atf has never been changed according to the fmbsh,as the black tab was in the filler/dipstick plug.As the auto box had no leak&was factory filled can i assume this atf level to be correct?

6.2L according to AutoData...
