atf dipstick where can i buy?

Eventually im going to purchase the proper mb dipstick just to be sure.i didnt bother undoing atf cooler pipes to drain the TC

changed atf filter&new sump gasket.Drained 6.050 liters out.Drove approx 30miles on sat&sun, noticed smoother gear changes.Drove 3miles to work on mon, when parking car noticed very little traction in D&R.Removed ign key, restarted engine selected D,everything ok &has been ok up to now since this worrying incident.Any surgestions as to why this happend?

When you changed it did you move it through D-R-D-R-D-R a few times, to let the fluid circulate - before measuring?

When I did mine I had gearbox slippage, this was before I had a dipstick. Took it to the local indie and it was about 1/2 a litre underfilled.

I have the occasional 'notsmooth' change, usually 1st or 2nd gear, but I put it down to old age and high mileage. It doesn't make any funny noises so it doesn't worry me.

yes i went through D-R-D-R-D-R-D several times b4 dipping with makeshift stick. My changes are smooth&smoother after changing the atf.How much did your mb dealer charge for checking atf?

It was an indie, he charged me nothing although they also put it on the computer to test everything, so I gave the lad that did it a fiver for a pint.

Just bought 7226 dipstick off ebay, seller in USA. Price including delivery £19. Dealer quoted £33.44.

Dam! bought mine last sat from Inchcape(mb Mansfield), charged me £35. which inclueded 5%discount.I did a search on ebay about a month ago & nothing came up.When i checked level it was between min&max on 80hot,took 200ml. to bring it to max.do you or anyone no if you can buy engine oil dipstick off ebay?

6.050 L (same as came out) Using parrot of dooms diagram,i made a dipstick out of white net curtain wire.Befor draining i checked atf level (when hot) which was 5mm above the max level. The atf has never been changed according to the fmbsh,as the black tab was in the filler/dipstick plug.As the auto box had no leak&was factory filled can i assume this atf level to be correct?
Dipping hot is not acurate. You need to dip it hot, while engine is running, when the ATF is circulating for a true reading on the dipstick.

This is why it showed a higher reading, 5mm above max, if engine was off.

Make your own cost peanuts, best measured hot 80 degrees motor running transmission in "P" or "D";)

Just phoned local MB service dept who were most helpful and advised that total refill will take 7 Litres, parts confirmed price as £8.45 per litre + vat for Synthetic ATF.

engine dipstik

There are two part Nos for the workshop ENGINE dipstick.

120 589 06 2100 @£57.00 + vat

120 589 07 2100 @£58.00 + vat

discount doesn't apply to workshop tools.

One has a twist and one is straight. You have to know which one is relevant for your model and since they are both calibrated in mm from the bottom you have to know the reading applicable to your car. They are multi-vehicle tools. Bribe a workshop foreman.
