I want to have a proper ATF change (pan + converter).

Does anyone know of a garage in Leeds/York/Bradford vicinity?

I don't want to go somewhere that's an 'unknown'.

can anyone recommend?

cheers

I have used for 35 years and recommend Rodley Motors in Bradford .
Good honest motor engineers.
Just tell them what you require.

Address: Rodley Motors - Cutler Heights Lane – Dudley Hill – Bradford – BD4 9PD

Tel No: 01274 688968

Fax No: 01274 681613

Email: [email protected]

mechanics, not engineers
pedantic, but aaccurate

A fair point ... BUT

I have older bills from them that are headed
"Rodley Motors and Engineering Co".

Their new computer-generated invoices only say "Rodley Motors", so I guess they have down-graded themselves !!

So lets get this straight philepo. You want help, you get it and you pick holes in it. What a very odd world we live in.

johnsco, long established respected forum member too.

At least you thanked him for his help though.

Totally inaccurate actually , Rodley are Engineers of the highest quality no one finer in the UK for sorting out V8 engines particularly Yanks are hard to do diesel V8's they are not mechanics, technicians or fitters but bloody honest good Yorkshire engineers with a world class reputation :thumb:

That's silly and needlessly aggressive. I was grateful for the garage tip and thanked the bloke.

I'm a chartered mech engineer and it is slightly irritating when people assume anyone who deals in 'technical' or 'practical' work is an engineer and so i made a jokey comment about it, why bring out the handbags?!. One job is not inferior to the other, but they are different. If you think that being a technician or mechanic is inferior to an engineer, that is your massive potato wedge of a chip on your shoulder and that is sad. Personally I hugely respect a good mechanic or technician, i rely on them to make my designs come to life, i don't have the necessary practical skills myself.

You know the Germans think it is hilarious that gas fitters are called engineers here... they actually laugh at us... i can't tell you how frustrating that is. Its a similar story in US, France, Italy.

If in doubt go to the institution of mechanical engineers website for clarification.

So you didn't pick holes in what he said. Or is there a difference between picking holes and pedantic.

For accuracy could you point me to the aggression in my post please. I do not see any.

Chill guys ... Chill
Like the Germans, I take great pride in calling myself an engineer.
In some parts of the world it is a term of respectful address ... Like "Doctor" in the UK.
I wish it were so in the UK.

Rodley's are good.

There are many places who employ tyre-changers, wheel-balancers, etc., and (if you are lucky), one mechanic.
I don't describe these places as "engineers".

Have a good day !.

I've just changed my profile from service engineer to service technician. :o

Philepo, I would recommend Richard Hollings in York- always had my E55 serviced with him - he did the ATF a few months back - extremely knowledgeable about Mercedes cars, quality work and good value for money imho.

Blimey now lads. Chill for gods sake. Is it the wrong time of the month i wonder ????? Thought we were all mates on here ???. TC.

RH only do partial flushes on cars without torque converter drain plugs. But as they are near my regular route and have been recommended (the most important bit) I think I will settle for have 2/3 of the fluid changed. Got to be better than nothing. Perhaps will do again next yr, assuming it doesn't rust to pieces by then... another story, just spotted some when cleaning :(

Don't do it you need the lot changed draining the TC is easy I'm amazed they dont know how to do it you dont need a drain plug to empty the TC. Just find another garage dont accept second best.

Heres the guide to how it should be done

Without knowing of any other MB specialist nearby who do the TC :( I feel I have no choice. I may ask him to do the method described by blackc55 but then I would be worried about sounding patronising! :p

I did chuckle when I read this thread...seems back on track now, I have spent a lot of time on business in Germany, professional engineers are very respected there, held in high esteem to same level doctors etc...

I don't know any garages in Yorkshire sorry...but normally always change the ATF, I would travel for a full change as recommended above...

DSB
also chartered engineer:D

Before you assume your car has no TC drain plug OP may be you could tell us what it is being as you neither mentioned it in the opening post or listed it in your 'Garage'?
