Just picked up my new E220 today. I had the iPod interface installed to connect to the standard Audio 20. The manual implies that I can access info and control the iPod using the centre display for the Audio 20 but all I get is the same as in my previous 06 C class - nothing in the centre console and truncated track-names in the instrument cluster.

Help please. Am I missing something obvious?

I'm pretty sure the standard iPod adapter only displays in the instrument cluster.

To get it to display on the centre colour screen on Audio 20, you need to install UMI:
Mercedes-Benz UK - Lines and equipment - Genuine accessories

UMI only available for W204 at the moment, but due on W212 soon.

EDIT: Just realised, you have a S211 - not sure on UMI compatability with that!

Me neither. The Audio 20 manual that came with the car describes an optional Media interface but maybe what the dealer supplied was a standard iPod interface... Hmmm... should I have been more specific when I asked for an iPod connector?

UMI is for W204 (and soon W212/W207) only.

You need Media Interface (sometime known as UCI) to have access to all the info on the Audio-20. Comand Online has MI retrofit for the W204, and if you email them they may be able to create one for the W211. MB UK package the Media Interface with the CD/DVD changer option - athough last year they did not.

However, you have to check that the W211 head unit you have actually has the fibre optic port on it, which can only be checked by taking the unit out and looking at the connector on the head unit to see if it has Media Interface.

And you need to persuade your dealer to configure it, or go visit Alfie - since you are in Bedford i'd go visit Alfie in Woking ...
