I have seen various threads regarding changing gearbox/converter oil, but could someone do a "How TO" with pictures for the hard of thinking? Being mechanically challenged I find the How To's really helpful especially when there are good pictures with it. You know picture paints a thousand words etc etc.

if you need a how to to do a gearbox oil change - i wouldnt do it...

book it in at a good indy - george fraser west london is a gearbox man, or andy gayle in brum...

no doubt there are many more - its not a difficult job - but you need the RIGHT tools, and the RIGHT procedure (temp / usege / dipsticks etc etc)

I changed the oil on my CLK (tiptronic box) and it was very easy. The box felt smoother after the oil change, the old oil looked and smelled burnt.
You need a 'dipstick' if your car has the electronic box, these are available from your stealer for a few pounds, and dont forget to drain the torque converter as well as the gearbox!
I would recommend the pukka MB gearbox fluid. You will need 8 litres and its quite expensive!

how many miles had you do when changed and time taken to chanre did you do the filter and torque convertor how much was the oil (parts) ta

personally I would reckon on 35k being top mileage for gearbox oil

changing the filter is no big job - just drop the pan and don't forget to replace the gasket.

Time to do the job - allow yourself a couple of hours and you won't be far wrong.

The hardest part of the job is locating the torque convertor drain plug :)

Everything else is just undoing a few bolts then putting everything back just like you found it.

One cautionary note is that you need to work in as clean an environment as possible - dust and dirt do not mix well with automatic transmissions.
