I would be very grateful if someone could let me have the exact procedure for changing the auto trans oil on a 300CE W124 1993

A local mechanic will do this for me - he has the ramps etc., so the job will be a lot easier.

Can anyone confirm that I need around 6.2 litre of Titan ATF 5005 - plus any link to where I can buy it from.

Do I need a "full" gasket and filter kit from MBZ Dealer.

Many thanks

Yes,you`ll need the filters and i think you`ll need 5.5l

If he does not know maybe he should not do it?

It is straight forward and as you are local I would be happy to do it for you and you can watch me in the workshop too.

There are snags! Sometimes the bolts holding on the oil pan seize in the gearbox housing -steel bolts in an alloy casting corrosion -- if one shears off you can be in trouble. The other pitfall is to over torque the bolts when refitting causing the oil pan flange to distort making the next gasket harder to seal. Otherwise pretty straightforward. Make sure your guy follows the instructions on checking the new fluid level exactly as overfilling is as hazardous as underfilling. Some people check the level of the old fluid is ok first---then drain fluid---measure exactly how much came out----and use that as an initial guide for the refill.

yes use a torque wrench on the pan bolts or tighten finger tight and then nip up a little more. otherwise on a 124 it will warp the pan (i speak from experience!!) the 210 how to i linked to above has special "idiot-proof" bolts whereas the 124 bolts will just tighten until the pan is warped and leaking!!

you'll need:

7.5 litres of ATF (genuine is expensive but best, but any dextron II should be fine)
filter (i'd go genuine MB)
new pan gasket
new crush washer for the pan (may come with genuine filter)
