Should I worry?

Had a drivers seat control unit replaced on my W215 as it was causing a battery drain. During their investigation they found that the Automatic Control Unit was filled with auto transmission fluid. Apparently it had travelled up the wires leading into the unit by capillary action and isn't uncommon.

All the tests showed no faults stored relating to this but they have noted it on the invoice. They've also noted that they have drained the unit and it appears to be functioning normally.

So, should I be worried?

You get a modified plug, and wash the ECU out with lighter fuel, wash the end connectors with lighter fuel, then apply some non drying switch cleaner to the pins at both ends, the end 2 on their own are the CAN connection and were a problem 1999-2000,, a switch cleaner on the conectors solved the non plausable fault codes

Assuming they've washed the unit out as you describe, what part number is this modified plug and can I fit it myself?

That I do not know, ask Ollie, and yes you can DIY it,, as you say you could leave the ECU alone.

Its interesting that they now wash them, 2 years ago they were replaced,, 2 years ago I proved that washing them they were like new and nothing could happen by any box fluid entering it

Who's Ollie?

How do I gain access to the CU?

Thats me.

The part number is a 203 540 02 53

Hi Ollie, wouldn't have guessed that was your name.

Can't find that part number in the EPC?

Just changed it. Check now.

this is the lastest number and modified part.

Here's the part. Looks like I need to get the car up on a hoist (which I don't have) to access this.

We are so backwards or lazy in this country.

In sweden there are several petrol stations where you can hire a lift and high pressure washer for £4.00 per hour, most have at least 8 bays all curtained off.

Bring the car to Ollies to the meet and get it done

I've always said there should be such a service available in this country.

What meet? Where? When?

Not everyone is fortunate enough to have the ability to change their big end shells as the need arises, and many people are and certainly will be much too busy working to pay the mortgage to consider DIY'ing.
Notwithstanding this it is nice to do work yourself, and without a doubt the savings are useful.

People do not do engine rebuild there, new exhaust, wash the underside and rust proof, thats why the cars last longer over there,, their motages are as big as ours, its just that the Swedes are more inventive and DIY than us

A trip down to the South Coast would be nice. Ollie, is this something you can do on the day?
