AVG vs Virgin PCguard

Have put AVG v9 (free version) on Suzy Cute's laptop and do not like it at all. It is pretty troublesome in terms of blocking "normal" sited even blocks MoneySavingExpert.com as it MAY be possible to download a virus. Solution is to get the paid version of AVG - surprise, surprise! From December 1st you HAVE to use the new version so can't even continue to use V8.5

Looks like AVG have hit a wall financially and need more revenue (which I understand - it has been a great free product for a number of years )

I use Virgin so can get PCguard. Anybody have any experience of it? What about Avast? That any good?

I'm not sure how you've configured AVG but I dont get this at all on my installation.

Are you sure its not something you've enabled in IE? (safe site search or something?)

PC Guard is nasty - avoid like the plague.

I agree AVG no problems unlike Avast and wouldent touch PCGuard with a 10ft barge pole

I removed Virgin PC Guard from my dads PC as it was killing the performance and he only plays solitaire and looks at pictures of Ireland on it. So Removed it and replaced it with AVG and now it flies. Job Done.

I used to suggest AVG to my friends, have since move the Avast as it is more reliable. I currently have Avast on all my Laptops within the house(4) and most of my friends use it too. To date, none have got a virus or had any problems so I now advise using Avast for home Pcs/Laptops(I'm an IT manager so have a goo understanding of what is available)

Incidently, if any of u have any web projects you need assistance with, I know a very good C# developer who is very reasonable....

I have used Avast since a trojan got past AVG on my daughters laptop

No problems with any of the machines that I have it installed on so far

I have used Avast for the last 2/3 years and am more than satisfied.

I should have said I'm a IT Technician and have seen hundreds of home user PC's with various Anti-Virus software on, and have not come across any so far with AVG on that has caused a issue, but I have with Avast - that is why I dont reccommened it to customers, but with any anti-virus software there is always going to a a % of people who never have issues, personnaly I use Norton Corporate.

Avast works for me on 4 machines.
I started using it about 5 years ago, may be longer.
I do hear that Nod32 http://www.google.co.uk/aclk?sa=l&a...&q=http://www.eset.co.uk/promotions/antivirus is very good but not free.

Frankly if microsoft were any good at protection we wouldnt need AV products.

Spot on.... MS's new offering is called Microsoft Security Essentails and seems to be generally well recieved. I have a subscription on my Win 7 PC for Kaspersky that is expiring in a few days and plan to try out the MS offering.

PS I'm sure it's been mentioned before somewhere but if you are a Barclays online customer you can get Kaspersky for free.
