I arrived back to the UK on Saturday after a nice relaxing week away enjoying the wonderful sights across France and Germany.
After some initial issues with my W204 and some doubts about keeping the car, I can now say that I love the car... :bannana:
I guess i needed a real tour to truly enjoy it as apposed to sitting in daily traffic on the commute to work.
The comand satnav is fantastic and was the star of the show, it made traveling a breeze, especially with directions illustrated on the dash without being too intrusive. It even provide a accurate pronunciations to each destination! Comfort was excellent (full Leather/heated seats), some journeys were 4 hours and i didn't feel any kind of back ache or tiredness.
The car was just flawless throughout, now very pleased with my purchase after 5 months. It covered the miles effortlessly, it also feels much lighter and smoother now? I guess since I have owned the car a build up town traffic is now ideal for a diesel engine.
Once on the open Autobhan, it was cruising at 100 mph begging for more! It felt like i was doing 70 mph. European roads are great, it felt like a Mercedes! Smooth and controlled.
Overall the fuel economy was 42mpg over 1850 miles at an average of 54 mph. If i was being over critical I would say this is my only disappointment, ideally I wanted in excess of 45mpg , I still get the feeling my car is under performing in this area. Although sub 4 degree temperatures played a big part too i guess? Majority of the of the trip was on Motorways and A roads driven at 65 or 80 mph. There was the occasional blast to 100mph and some city traffic (especially in Paris, but this was minimal driving). One thing i did notice is at 75mph the revs sit at 2k, at 80mph they sit ate 2.3k. I would be interested to hear how this differs on other cars?
The Pan roof was also a great touch when the sun was out! A feature which has grown on me.
I would recommend this kind of trip to anyone looking to enjoy there car and see some fantastic sites across Europe on a fair budget.
A visit to the Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart is a must! Amazing place, so much to see, read and learn.![Thumb :thumb: :thumb:](/styles/mbclub/smilies/thumb.gif)
I have attached a few pics, the car did get some interesting looks in Germany!
