Back from the factory.

You probably get taken to the factory from the airport in a W124 though :D.

More likely to be a W210.

They are so common as taxis that they could be specified as one from the factory which the W124 couldn't.

Standard items include heavy duty springs, MB Tex upholstery, taximeter and rooflight, higher ratio gearing, proper yellow paint...

The driver just puts the key in and goes to work..

Typical example.

Thicker brake pads too!

I hope i haven't waffled on to much.

Impossible.
I love learning about the new S Class and enjoyed reading about your experience.

Well done on such a fine choice in car, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Now make with the pictures!!! :D :D :D

A great write up Peter, but for me LACKING in information apropos the factory tour!

For those of us not lucky enough not to do it, I think this might merit a topic of its own.

Anyway, lets have some pictures of the new car - I can honestly see myself trading the Lexus in for one of these.

All the best
Greg

I dont know how many of you are members of the Mercedes Club, but in one of the recent gazette's, there was a very detailed article about the factory collection...

i tell you, if i ever buy a new merc, that will definately be a ticked box for me..

yes but the collection is a whole other experience from what i read, they factory tour is just a segment of it..

Yes, I agree. Order another car then go back and do it properly!!

I'm willing to take the current V221 off your hands as it will only get in your way once you bring your new one home. :D

I am not trying to be pedantic, but genuinely interested in the reply. What happens if you have distronic fitted and an animal like a fox or a cat suddenly runs out in front of you quite close? Can the electronics differentiate between an animal and a bona-fide vehicle ahead?

No sir it does not work on foxes or sparrows

I doubt it could see an animal. Not a big enough 'target'..

I would think it would say, "An object in front is too close and I can't brake enough to stop in time (applies max of 40% breaking??). So you better hit the breakes or else!!!"

I would think it would say this in the form of a bleep and or flashing light on the dash.

I'll let you know for certain when I get hold of C43AMG's car. He's ordering another one so he can go back to the factory and do a better write up. So I'm having his old (current) one!!!

Isnt that much the same thing but radar is a bit higher up the frequency spectrum? The principle is the same - a bit like gatso speed cameras. Its all on the doppler principle of measuring the difference between the emitted and reflected signals. The difference enables a measured distance to be calculated.
Or have I got it all wrong?
I wonder how large an animal has to be before it does get detected by distronic? A deer? A badger?

Too different things, Parktronic = Ultrasonics operate at around 21khz and anything in its path is reflected back. This is virtually audio band stuff.

Distronic = There are many forms of radar, the prime thing is that it requires something with electro conductive material to return the signal back to base and often operates in the Ghz band. The type on distronic uses the dopler principle and this method is used in all speed applications.

maybe if the Moose or dog was taking iron tablets then it might work

My SL will detect an A class in front
