Back from the factory.

I have been very impressed driving with distronic on an S Class and on the LS460 Lexus. The functions are both very good and yet I did not spec it on my car.
Why? The answer is the way the British drive. If you set the distance control to a safe and sensible gap, most British drivers see that as their space and dive in it! You simlply get shuffled to the back of the queue!
Of course you can set the distance shorter, but it is then hardly a restful ride:(
It works fine in some countries where they keep a reasonable distance, but I opted out due to drivers not technology:crazy:

I would hazard a guess and say that distronic must be like having a second pair of eyes in fog or heavy mist. Not that I would advocate driving beyond your viewing distance anyway - but it must add an extra layer of safety - which is never a bad thing if its properly used.

Yes you are dead right there and wonderful in fog and poor visibility taking away some of the strain, the nice thing being the car symbol that comes up in the dash before you can see the car

I doubt it could see an animal. Not a big enough 'target'..

If it did see a fox or a sparrow, would the car then follow it at the same speed? No ideal if it's a rabbit heading to it's burrow. Soil in the air intake is not ideal.

I had to follow a pheasant for almost a mile last week at his speed before he went into an opening.. When I stopped he stopped and so on

If you want to se the spec go into search and put The Spec of my 500L .The only changes i made where 20" AMG's instead of 19"AMG's and Piano Black Trim instead of Walnut which includes the Sports Steering Wheel in Black.

And Greg i will go into more detail of the tour when i have a little bit more time.

Congratulations on the new car, looks absolutely amazing :bannana:

Must be a fantastic experience, still haven't done the tour but I will have to buy brand new at least once to get the factory collection experience, that's something I've promised myself :D

It's such a pity that you don't get a free factory tour with a used W124. :o
You can get a factory tour if you go to the museum, I think - and the entrance fee for that is only €8. The old museum was free, mind... :(

You probably get taken to the factory from the airport in a W124 though :D.
Unlikely... have you been to Germany recently? There aren't many old cars about these days.

We should lay on a trip to the factory, that would make a fun day out, who is up for it this year.
Me! Fantastic idea! :bannana:
(Not as a day trip, though )

That is one gorgeous looking car! Congratulations:D
I think Mercedes have been very clever in making the the LWB model look very sleek without making the standard WB car look stumpy.

Although I've been before I would love to go again!

Go before the beginning of Summer though. Our tour guide said in the summer they do up to 500 people a day for tours.

I have changed the centre caps for the Black ones which i found on Ebay a couple of months ago. They just finish the wheels off.

great car and pics just read the thread regards jon
