Back to the old skool

£2000 max ??????

The bumpers alone on this car costs more than £2000 !!

Where on earth did that valuation come from ???

That how much I would pay for it personally. ;) That's based on the description "Very reasonable reserve price as fitted with non standard 6 Cylinder carburated engine ( believed 280S engine), non original bumpers and several non original trim parts and badging so not for the purists" I have to confess due to the reasons above I have no idea what its true market value is. Original cars esp the second series V8s certainly fetched silly money a few years back. :( Not sure what the market is like now. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W111

Non original so not worth much except as a summer runabout or a basis for a proper restoration. £2,000 max.
£10,100 and the reserve has still not been met!

Has anyone seen this car as the very honest write up just makes me wonder how much would be needed to restore this car to its original state. Or a new 63AMG engine     Mega grin factor

to be fair the engine upgrade is definately a good thing... the other bits certainly wouldnt bother me as long as they werent completely out of place... this will fetch good money... stunning colour too

Its a beautiful old car and old Merc cabriolets always sell but I honestly think were you to drive it you would be disappointed. Its a 50 year old design after all. It won't go very well, it won't corner, it won't stop, it will probably leak in the rain and rattle over the bumps. For the same money you can probably buy a really sound w124 cabriolet which is a car you can enjoy everyday.Sorry:o

But apart from that it will be a brilliant car

A few years back I posted a link regarding a top quality company that converted the old style 300SL. They do an excellent job and basicially they refurbsish the shell with a complete rebuild, bare metal respray and then fit all new modern bits including an AMG engine. My description might not be doing the company justice, but the end result is stunning. I love the older styles BUT they are ....... a 50 year old design after all. It won't go very well, it won't corner, it won't stop, it will probably leak in the rain and rattle over the bumps. I also like what Americans do with their old vehicles, that to me is 'modding' a vehicle.

The car in question is still a nice looking pose-mobile that will turn more heads than someone driving a modern SL but only take it out on a sunny day.  :o :o

I've seen this car driving around in the flesh, it does look great but I have no idea on value!

Pity it's lost a little of it's originality, but I guess totally 100% standard ones must go for a fortune?

It's just round the corner from Will and I , in East Molesey ...

I've not seen it in the flesh , but i did see nick mercedes in the flesh yesterday , who mentioned that he had an engine out of a CLK 55 knocking around ....

Now that would be a sleeper !!

Fitting the mechanics might be straightforward-ish, :) but I dread to think about the complexity of the electronics for a modern AMG lump? (question);)

No , you're absolutely right John ...

Nick said the same thing when we were speaking about engine transplants ...

It's not like the old days ... Jag V12 into a metro type stuff ...

In good condition, these are worth a LOT of money.

To be honest they are seriously expensive to restore, and it is far better to buy one that has been already restored.

Absolutely fantastic cars from an era that Mercedes built cars that looked the way a car should look......sheer beauty.

I wonder what the reserve is? That is a lovely boat..I reckon Howard would like that.
Very fine.
